According to sources quoted by MCV.com, Star Wars: The Old Republic is coming out a bit later than originally thought. MCV's "development sources" say that SW: TOR's release date is in September. While no official release date has ever been announced, comments made by EA head John Riccitiello suggested a Spring 2011 release date was likely.
No matter when The Old Republic hits stores, there's a lot riding on this game. It's a game release on a massive scale -- the scale of a combination of developer's-developer Bioware and the Star Wars Universe in a persistent game can not be overstated. So there's a lot on the positive side of the ledger for SW: TOR... but there are some pretty huge negatives as well.
Challenged facing The Old Republic:
- There's the cost of developing a full-scale MMO. Supposedly, over 300 million bucks have already been spent on building The Old Republic, so they'll need a lot of subscriptions.
- There is already a Star Wars MMO. People who follow the gaming industry closely might understand how different a Bioware Star Wars MMO is from SOE's Star Wars: Galaxies, but will the average consumer?
- World of Warcraft: the huge variety of people who play MMOs play World of Warcraft. Will The Old Republic be able to lure enough hardcore WoW-heads to make their nut?
What do you guys think? Are you ready for Star Wars: The Old Republic?

Personally paying a larger subscription really doesn't bother me, I mean end of the day whats the dif between 8.99 like some (i.e. WoW) and sticking a crobar in ya wallet an paying 15 area. At the end of the day roughly $300,000,000 has been spent so far and aslong as the game is good then why would we care.
Only thing that has bugged me is BioWares lack of respect for the potential & loyaly waiting customers by constantly messing them around. True a offical release date has never been given, but how many officals have been stating Possible releases and basically winding everyone up. I personally think thier doing it on purpose to drum up peoples thirst for the game, but they don't seem to get its just angering alot. We also here its because they wish to get it all fixed perfect before release, well I've played no less then 4 mmo's and thats BULL. Its impossible to get perfect no matter what, maintance, bugs and those pesky little gliches are gona happen even if they spend another 6years let alone 6mthss. They should just get on with it, because as I'm sure many would agree, enough IS ENOUGH.

In my opinion there isn't a better company out there to be workin' on SWToR, I've been a devoted fan of bioware's since Baldur's Gate and have made sure to test out all there games since over a number of Platforms. There record for making award winning top sellers is pretty high to date and you can see why if you've played any of there games, my only fear is that recently its going to their head.
Dragon Age 2 got massive hype and it turned out to be the same engine as its predecessor with a little tweaking no story structure like the previous game and strikingly similar to most of DA1's downloadale content as if it there was no more room in the first game so we'll dump it together for the 2nd game with a unique combat style plus Dragon Age 3 gets announced no sooner than its released.
(I have seen Company's I've had great respect for start doin this and they usually keep doing over the consumer. But my hope is this is just a minor lapse to the dark side).
My Rambling aside Bioware really know what they're doing and i have never experienced such unique story/dialogue in any other company's games, I have no doubt this game will be epic... just be wary of dodgy addons.

It just better not suck like FFIVX. Cause I hate shelling out 40-60 bucks on an mmo and it's really terrible. For example: FFIVX, EVE, and Champions.

Oops I forgot to add: What I said before. Meant ruinscape is for free. You don't need to pay to play and some old games. You can use a game card. Thats what I meant before.

I'm ready for Star Wars: The Old Republic and The subscriptions are a real killer. Which isn't really good.
mike197714
I agree with some people here: Like subscriptions to MMOs and pay to play are really killers. Giving the sad state our economy is in. Even some people don't or can't afford windows 7. Because if the requirements.
Because Money and gamming go hand in Hand.
D_Money2180 (I kinda of agree with) and orange_shirt_guy(I agree with alot)...But D_Money2180 doesn't seem to understand that some MMO's that are free. Really are just pay by the minute(Use a card). Eventually it burns a whole in the wallet. Now if I had the money I would buy a card and put money into it. But I don't.
Now as for orange_shirt_guy....I completely agree with him/her on this: Subscriptions have got to go. The economy is terrible right now and people when looking for games. They attend to want a game that doesn't or isn't as expensive.
But still I can't wait for Star Wars The Old Republic to be released.
So may the force be you. May the force be with us all.

I'm very excited for this game. This is the one game im really looking forward to. Played wow for the last 5 years and well Cata just felt like the same thing. Grind the same style dungeons, raids, and pvp crap. Quit, and now i need a place to dedicate some of that time to. Something that is truely worth while with a great story but while also having all the pve and pvp experiences im looking for. Dying to wield a lightsaber and explore a huge universe. Everything about this game seems epic. Can't wait.

I played SWG for 3+ years and was almost literally the last person on my server to go. I miss it.
I've been playing WoW for about 3 years now and am ready for something new, i doubt i'll miss it.
But honestly, it's not World of Warcraft that TOR has to beat, it's Blizzard. Blizzard has done a phenomenal job supporting it's MMO and no matter how good TOR might be, if BioWare/EA can't do as good a job or better as Blizzard, it will fail.

I hear anonymous tips from anonymous sources on random websites = fact. Stop getting worked up over speculation.

I have been one of the lucky ones to beta test/test both Rift and SWToR and I can honestly say both are solid games for Blizzard to be concerned with. I've played WoW since Vanilla and every exspansion has made the game less interesting and boring. And for thos that want to compair SWG to SWToR is like compairing night and day.

Yesterday, Tyler Rowe - a Community Representative at BioWare posted this in a thread on the official forums for SWTOR (http://www.swtor.com/communit y/showthread.php?t=255000):
"Hi all,
Dutch_Gamer is correct -- the target launch window for STAR WARS: The Old Republic is set for Spring 2011. If you've seen or heard any date more specific than that, you should treat it as speculation or a placeholder from those discussing the date.
Hope that helps!"

P.S. There is enough market not the need to steal the WOW crowd and be an even larger and bigger success than WOW is. WOW numbers are what... world wide? There are more gamers in the US than what WOW pulls in. If the rest of the MMO community realizes this... they can get numbers without WOW they would make better games. WOW has WOW people. Get non WOW people to play your game and you can still have large number of people.

Remember when I started preaching how SWTOR may bomb... well... I am a MMO player, I am a scifi geek, and I love Star Wars... and I still think it COULD bomb. BIOWARE makes great single player games. However, I have seen the videos... and it sure dont look challenging or "revolutionary." The graphics seem... a bit subpar and I have never played it... so I can not commit on anything else. I will hope for the best, though. I hate dwarves, elves, and magic - May the Force be with you.

I think they're pulling the same thing SOE did. They think they have the world by the balls because the next Star Wars game is theirs. NEWS FLASH: They'll only have a very small percentage of people by the balls. I will not be included. My balls are untouchable. Watch me walk away.
Stefanos
I know it takes time to create an incredible game, but the longer they take to release it, the more time they give gamers to get started in other games. Let it be available. Add more content later through updates.

I'm beyond ready. Although if they want people to care that much about it, it might be a good idea to wait until they know the true release date before they announce a ballpark timeframe. Honestly, if it wasn't Star Wars, I'd have said screw it by now. Star Wars is something that I have a genuine interest in, but nothing means more to me than my pride. Another psych like that could lose them the massive piles of money that they're depending on.

Only PC gamers, will enjoy " Star Wars : The Old Republic ".

I am so stoked, give me some more time to save up for a new computer! lol
Wildcard273
AWESOME! September, sounds good, gives me time to save up for a new computer so I can run the game perfectly. I know that any delay is only going to be a good thing and Bioware/LucasArts are going to do whatever it takes to make this game as perfect as possible.
I'm not put off by the idea that it might be a subscription game, that's fine with me. I played WoW for 4 years and EVE for about 2 and I've quit both of them awaiting this game.
So now that we have a rumor of a release date, how about some min/optimal computer specs!
