With the release of the Nintendo 3DS fast approaching, one has to wonder how the new portable gaming system will sell. Are we going to see the same kind of fury we did for the Wii? Or will the high price tag keep people from cleaning out the store shelves? Such is the subject of this week's Soapbox. Adam took some time to dissect the many aspects of this new piece of hardware and try to figure out if lightning can strike twice. Will you buy the Nintendo 3DS on day one? Or wait to see if it's worth the investment?

While price is an issue, I think that there are plenty of people out there that will buy something just because it has Nintendo's name on it, and they know it. Though I have to say, that they may have made a wise decision waiting until the start of the year instead of rushing it for the holidays. Doing this will let all the people that want one at release get one. Then they can start cranking up production while hype is still low for the people in the world that don't keep up with video game industry. All the while they can let word of mouth, store displays, and early adopters really give this things some hype. That way come the holiday buying frenzy season they can have enough stock to do a better job at keep up with demand than they did with the Wii.

I pretty much agree with everything Adam said except the price and launch lineup. For what you are getting, a new and ( in gaming terms ) unique experience, $250 doesn't seem that bad. The PSP when it first launched was $250 and various smartphones cost the same or more when you take the contract into account. As for launch lineups, I think the last system to actually have a day one must have was the first XBOX with Halo. I think with most core gamers they buy systems because of the games that will be coming out for it.

I'm curious to check it out but I'll definately wait a while. I'm not really into 3D anything but if they make solid games I'll get it.

I had my doubts with the 3DS, but Adam has made me realize these doubts are correct. I want the 3DS, but I don't mind waiting to see what ore they do with it first. I only use my DSi for Pokemon and taking quick pictures right now and I'll rent a game here and there when Gamefly doesn't send me a game I want, but that's it. Thanks Adam for making me realize I'm not kidding myself with these doubts and concerns .

I'm looking forward a lot for this. But I do agree, the 3DS is a portable, a very impressive one at that, but its a portable. It is not something that I'm really going to sit down when I'm at home to play vs a console.

Considering how long it took for them to put out some decent games on the original DS when they originally came out, yeah probably not, I'll wait.
Same goes for the Wii, I still own less games on the Wii than any other console.
