Is the screenshot above an early look at Angry Birds 2?
It comes from a German news report about Rovio Games, the people behind the game/cultural phenomenon Angry Birds. The news segment is about upcoming add-on, Angry Birds Seasons--due by Valentine's day-- but the screenshot above is not from that game, leading to the speculation that it's a very early look at the full sequel to Angry Birds.
It's hard to glean too much about the (supposed) game from the shots -- it pretty much looks like Angry Birds with a different background. You have your birds, your slingshot, your pigs protected by structures made of wood, ice and stone. I wonder if Roviois taking an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude toward the company's cash cow. Lord knows I would -- when you come up with an app that prints its own money, you don't go messing with it.

As other have said, this type of game (Angry Birds), and many copies and incarnations of it, have been around for years. In fact, you can find many of them on newgrounds (which oddly enough I find equally as boring but have very high approval ratings), if you want to see games with the same concept of Angry Birdsm which existed before Angry Birds, and are more detailed then Angry Birds. And if you're looking for relatively simple but engaging games there are many better ones, and a practically infinite amount of them for free and in my opinion, better, more detailed, more complex (in programming not necessarily in difficulty to play), on sites such as newgrounds. I'm not trying to advertising newgrounds here, but many "good" phone games are similar and usually even less complex then flash games. And as someone who used to use newgrounds a lot, when I play most of these phone games they seem like like more boring versions of flash games. Like I said, no offense if you like Angry Bids, just saying there are better of the same that exist.

The appeal of angry birds is all in the physics system. Every object has a specific weight, strenght etc. so that when they start falling you never know how exactly things will turn out but when you are a pro you can start to predict trends and develop strategies.
Sure, there is no gameplay or story but it brings back the fun of building a castle out of blocks and knocking it down. Most people enjoy breaking stuff and birds does it in a satisfying way.

Angry Birds is one of the most addictive games I have played in years. I beat every single level with 3 stars and still wanted more. I dragged me away from Fable 3 and my PS3 for God sakes!

Can someone explain to me what's so fantastic about Angry Birds? I played it for a bit and found it incredibly boring. Flash games on newgrounds are usually more amazing and equally as free and portable on an Android device. When I hear people talk about how freaking amazing Angry Birds is it leaves me wondering, "have these people never played a DS game before?", or at the very least play a flash game on newgrounds? It gets a lot better then Angry Birds. No offense to people who love it, I genuinely don't understand what the appeal is and would like to hear an explanation.

Actually, Angry Birds Seasons has been out on Android for some time now... just throwing that out there. Droid Does!
And Angry Birds 2 sounds of and all, as long as we get some new birds with some awesome powers. Like bird that shoots double rainbows out of its a$$... think Laser of Dawn... from a bird...

I was so disappointed with the PS3 port to this... it was 4x more expensive and you only get a quarter of the levels. I have a bad feeling Angry Birds 2 won't give us anything new and original. Just more of the same. Can't blame them though, if it makes them money then why change?

This makes me very excited. I love Angry Birds and I can't get enough. Theres a simple kind of joy about smashing green pigs with a concrete block, BUT ONLY VIRTUALLY!!!!!
