Say what you will about Evony. Decry its cleavage-heavy, ubquitous online advertising campaign. Call its gameplay derivative and weak. Whatever. The game may have saved a man's life.
Robert “Bob” Chambers was chilling at his home in Spokane, WA, playing some Evony on FaceBook, when smoke filled the room. A toaster was on fire. Because Chambers is disabled with muscular dystropy, he couldn't throw a towel over the appliance, nor call for help. So he turned to Evony.
“Help me,” he recalled typing on an Evony message board, using his specialized computer mouse and on-screen keyboard. “My house is on fire and I can’t get out.”
He gave out his address, and players in Indiana and Texas called the fire department. Heroic Spokane firefighters soon carried him to safety.
“I hated this game because he doesn’t pay attention to me or anything else in the house,” The man's wife told The Spokesman-Review. “Now I’ve got to bite my tongue because it saved his life quite possibly.”
Okay, you could argue that a stuck piece of toast probably wouldn't have actually filled the house with enough smoke to kill anyone, but shhhhhh. Who knows what would have happened if it hadn't been for the wonder of Evony and Facebook? Plus, how awesome is it that technology has opened the world to people who, in ages past would have been shut out from most forms of communication?

I agree with zombie. Just because this guy was on Evony at the time doesn't mean that "Evony saved his life". He could've been on WoW or some other game that causes people to ignore their family (like his wife said). Evony deserves no credit for this.
Zombie_Jesus!
This is such a load of crap, this is circumstantial and opportunistic exploitation. The guy could have been on any other game that has live chat. Evony didn't save this mans life, his friends did. Evony was only a chat vehicle and nothing more, they deserve no credit here.

Greetings!
As you have noticed we launched a patch on July 9th to remove the ability to capture multiple Kings and Queens. Evony is a constantly evolving game where we adjust the rules to keep gameplay fair and balanced, and this is not the first time we have implemented patches to prevent the ability of players to have multiple Kings and Queens. In this case we never planned for the ability of players to have multiple Kings and Queens. After this new method cropped up we allowed it to go on and monitored the situation. We have begun to see trends in gameplay from this ability that are beginning to undermine the balance of gameplay on the servers. Due to these trends we have removed this loophole that allowed players to have more then 1 King and Queen, we have also removed extra Kings and Queens from players that had multiple on their account. There will be no compensation for Royals that have been removed from an account.
Again we never intended for players to be able to do this, and after analyzing data on the servers we determined that this action had to be made to insure the health and balance of gameplay on the servers. We wanted to keep this feature as many players liked it, but we had to choose the overall balance and health of the server as the priority.
As for players that lost a King or Queen and no longer have one, we are working on a way for you to get a new King or Queen withing the next few days. Please watch the forums for news on this.
Please be aware that the CS Department does not make game changes, further questions in regards to this issue will be closed. If you would like to comment or join the discussion on this please visit the forums or feedback.evony.com. Also please be aware that as per the terms of service we reserve the right to make changes to gameplay and accounts at any time. You agree to this terms when you create an account.
We regret that this choice had to be made but the long term health of the game forced this, Good Luck Out There!

Being an Evony age I addict, I can tell you that people in an alliance get to know each other pretty well. If one of the members of my alliance put out a cry for help like this one, I would of course pick up the phone and make the call!
bucherbag
yeah props to the people that called!

No offense to him but if im in the middle of an intense battle (online or wherever playing) i wouldnt have paid him no mind.
Worzeth
They must have known him pretty well, cuz the last thing I would do when someone online says their house is on fire would be to call the fire department.

......I'm sorry what? *continues to stare at the picture*
dolphers
I may regret this but... What the heck is Evony?
Stellerman7
I'm surprised they believed him, If I'd told players in a game (Team Fortress 2 for example) that my house was on fire, they would call BS.
