Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Is Being Developed By Sledgehammer Games And Infinity Ward

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Activision has recruited Sledgehammer Games to help Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 meet its November release date, according to the LA Times. Last March the heads of Infinity Ward, Vince Zampella and Jason West, were fired, taking many of IW's talent with them. They started a new company, Respawn Entertainment, leaving what was left of Infinity Ward to develop the annual Call of Duty in time for November. Sources close to the situation say Activision has asked Sledgehammer Games to help finish Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Sledgehammer Games is made up of former Visceral Games members, the team behind Dead Space. Shortly after their formation Activision announced they would be working on a "Call of Duty game that will extend the franchise into the action-adventure genre." This game was slated for 2011. However it seems that this project has been put aside now that Sledgehammer is taking on half the weight of developing CoD: Modern Warfare 3's single player. Raven Software has been recruited to work on the multiplayer.

NEWSInfinity Ward's Next Project "Something New," Not Modern Warfare 3?

In the past Infinity Ward was the only developer behind Modern Warfare games. This is the first time Activision has sought help to reach their deadline. Call of Duty games are unofficially released every year. If the next Call of Duty game was delayed or seemed rushed it could be detrimental to Activision Blizzard's reputation and wallet.

i think if they are going to make another modern warfare it should be made by all the Infinity Ward employees because when too many random companys that have never worked with a CoD game will probably ruin it.

Why should we pay $60+ (if you want the "collectables") just for a game that isn't a FPS or rushed for that matter? Activision needs to stop with all the remakes and updates to a game every year!!! Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, DJ Hero, and there are probably even more. They need to take a look at other companies and release a game every few years (if it's going to be a sequel.) One series near and dear to my heart is the Ghost Recon series and look it's been about 4 years since the last one came out. The only games that I respect coming out every year are sports games. (But then they really don't add more to the game.)

I agree with a couple of the other posts- too many developers is a problem. Somehow I think that the lack of a single unified vision will make the final product seem inconsistent- like different games instead of a single game with different facets.

This is not to disrespect the work of the 2 new developers brought in- they have both made great games. But I fear that too many people working on the game, AND brought in midstream, will inevitably effect the final product, regardless of the talent involved.

The problem is, Activision kicked out the golden goose- and almost all of the rest of the flock left. I fear that gamers looking for a culminating, ultimate COD experience will be seriously disappointed...

It can't be good that they called in another publisher to help finish a game of a franchise that up till now only needed one developer.

It's sad to see what has happened to Call of Duty. It one time was an amazing series. It stopped with Modern Warfare 2 in my opinion. Call of Duty 4 was such an amazing game and almost everyone loved it. World at War wasn't liked as much, but most agreed it was a nice addition to the franchise and it was Treyarch's best at the time. Then Modern Warfare 2 came out, and we were all deeply excited. The hype was astounding. A few weeks after the release, the game went downhill and we all started witnessing the numerous balance issues and glitches. Then people started hacking and boosting. For me personally, it was such a disappointment. I was looking so forward to the game and it was so broken. Modern Warfare 2 marked the downhill of Call of Duty.

With Black Ops, I'm not sure what to think of it. It's Treyarch's best, I suppose. I don't know, I'm just not a big fan. I love Treyarch, as I was a huge fan of World at War personally, but Black Ops feels like a balanced MW2. I say this as being a "bad" thing because MW2 SHOULD NOT have been the way it was. Activision rushed IW to get MW2 released and it ended up being crap. It's annoying that I had to pay another 60 bucks to Treyarch to get a balanced game, yet far too similar game, to MW2.

Call of Duty is dead in the eyes of the gamers. Yes, it will still sell well for a while longer, but the real gamers are going to move on. I guarantee it. With me personally, I play MoH, BC2, and now Modern Combat: Domination. These are far better games now. In the future, I'll be sticking with Battlefield 3.

Goodbye Call of Duty....we will all miss your good old days. ( Yes, I did just made a dramatic farewell to CoD! lol)

Many may think that since the Black Ops game has came out then Modern Warfare 3 will not compare in popularity or sales, but since many of the players are young and willing to buy every single Call of Duty game than the game could spike up in popularity depending on how great the game is. Of coarse many won't want to buy this game since they just got Black Ops but knowingly they will buy this game eventually.

it seems like alot of the "core" gamers are getting sick of the call of duty franchise and they are saying that their not going to buy the next one. however the people inbetween hardcore and casual are still gonna gobble this up. its still gonna sell big even if reviews arent stellar. they see a COD commercial and they buy on impulse

In my opinion, Activision has "Guitar Hero'd" the Call of Duty franchise. I think I've just gotten tired of Call of Duty already. Actually, I'm not sure if I'm tired of the games or it's just more of the same. I mean, it comes out EVERY year, so who knows how much longer the games hold up now

More Call of Duty this year with the corpse of "Finite" Ward? This is pretty gross, really. It just shows how disconnected they are at Activision.

I don't care how good your game is, I don't want one every year. Not even Fallout. How much work can you possibly get done on a game in a year? Oh that's right, you're pimping out multiple studios for the kind of fantastic fractured experience MOH gave us, right? Christ on a Croissant.

I read something about some people that worked on Dead Space working on this which hopefully means there will be some GORE in a FPS for once, I personally never understood the reason why we can blow off some zombies limbs and heads but not other players that's like half assing it. The game is rated M I expect the Multi-Player to be equally as brutal as the single player and yes WaW you could blow limbs off but they took that out in Black Ops even know you can still do it in single player which is what I call a half assed MP. You can seriously tell me that you wouldn't enjoy sniping 10x more if you actually shot their head clean off their shoulders.

Black Ops is my last COD game, I said it before release and I'm still saying it. I've been a long time fan and have purchased every game in the series since the original but the game has just gotten stale to me. TBH if it wasn't for zombies I wouldn't play it much anymore, the campaign was fun but I beat that on vet on the second day and mp has just gotten boring for me.

Anyway, in regards to "IW" and Sledgehammer making MW3 if I wasn't already somewhat tired of this franchise that move alone would turn me off to it, the next COD won't really feel like MW to me.
