In a recent interview with Wired THQ vice president Danny Bilson spoke about how his company and ex-Infinity Ward heads, Vince Zampella and Jason West, discussed a potential partnership for Respawn Entertainment. According to Bilson the deal was close to going through. Respawn wanted to maintain ownership of their IPs while under THQ. This proved to be a deal-breaker for THQ.
"My responsibility to our stockholders and to my CEO and the company is to build an IP library," and allowing Respawn's creation to remain their own would "open the doors for everyone else to say, 'I wanna own it too." Respawn wanted to keep their IPs after the Fall of Duty scandal last year. The two companies agreed to disagree and parted ways. Bilson went on to say, “Maybe down the road we can strike another deal somewhere where it goes our way.” Respawn Entertainment then signed with EA.
If Respawn had signed with THQ would that impact your decision to support their games in the future? What difference might EA and THQ have as publishers?

thq usually has rather low graphics in my opinion, i mean saints row and red faction guerrilla are the most polished games they have, and they're using the same game engine, and granted they look very similar to grand theft auto, they don't really look that great overall, they often try to shade the entire area to hide some of the inconsistencies with the lack of power in their engine, now granted, respawn would've probably needed to make a new engine for their new game, but i mean just imagine how much more that would've added to their development time, i feel that thq is kind of lagging behind in the shooter market, it seems like its a duel to the death between activision and ea, and activision seems to be winning by a long shot, ea has to prove that respawn was a great deal, and ultimately the defining line of success or failure is will more people leave playing call of duty online than stay with it,

THQ publishes quite a few games Darksiders, Company of Heroes, Homefront, Metro 2033, Warhammer series, Red Faction, Saints Row, You Dont Know Jack, they also have a new logo which is much worse than the one posted here.

While he does have a point that other studios would ask for control of the IP as well, other studios wouldn't be coming in the leverage that Respawn has. The biggest independent studios should have control over their IPs, smaller guys have to work their way up to that privilege.

considering how many bugs mw2 has...i think thq should be happy to not have them and unless they step it up, i think ea might regret the choice later

THQ really make enough money to turn somebody down? Don't they only make wrestling games..or..something..

I don't think i would change my opinion to support their games. On the other hand these publishers need to understand that the new future is the gaming studios owning their own IPs.

It's totally outrageous how some people actually have the nerve to want control over their own ideas.
Seriously, IP's should be the property of those from whose intellect it has spawned.
I understand the business side of the debate, but that doesn't mean it isn't retarded.
