A new photo from this summer's Captain America: The First Avenger gives us a new look at the super-powered-patriot's complete costume. Sure, we've seen concept art and sporadic set photos, including a mask-less portrait on a recent cover of Entertainment Weekly. While some of those photos have displayed the evolution that his costume will undergo during the course of the film, we had still yet to see the actual image of Chris Evans in the final and definitive version of his Captain America digs, mask and all. Well, EW's latest issue has provided us with just that image. While an ultra-blurry version of this photo leaked earlier this week, a viewable (official) version has just been made available. It may be one of those things where you kind of already knew what it would look like, but it's nevertheless quite an impressive sight once you see it. Hit the read more link and take a look at the full photo.
First and foremost, one may notice a minor, but critical alteration to the concept art version of the costume: Wings! Yes, one of the biggest points of contention for online nitpickers was that the helmet/mask would not be featuring the iconic white eagle wings that typically rest on top of his ears. While the scoffing was hardly universal, in fact some welcomed their omission, they were undeniably a signature piece of Cap's look and is something one evokes when thinking of him. Rather than plastering some awkward-looking piece to the helmet, it seems that the look will be maintained by having them in painted form. The result, is something that (in my opinion,) successfully retains the heart of his comic look, yet manages to translate that tastefully into a live-action context. They pulled this off quite well.

On a sidenote, the presence of the HYDRA troopers in the background is also a nice thing to see, even if they look like the bastard children of Duke Nukem and the Gimp from Pulp Fiction.
How is the complete Captain America costume looking to you?

@3080 - Wow, really? Yes, the comics should be used as a reference or starting point, but honestly, half the costumes in comics/cartoons would look absolutely ridiculous in live action. Blue/Yellow Wolvie anyone? That would look so silly. Next, who cares what ethnicity Nick Cage & Kingpin are? Their power, abilities, story is not derived from what part of the world their from, it's about their innate characteristics that are not dependant on where their ancestors are from. When they make the movie of your life, you can pick the ethnicity of the actor playing you.
I personally think the costume looks fantastic! I wondered how they'd incorporate the wings without looking stupid and they did. I like the more armor/padded direction they took with the costume. Great, great job. I never really ready any Cap, but I think this all looks fantastic.

Looks good. I was worried that the wings on his mask wouldn't make an appearance at all. It all came together nicely.

:( sad.

Totally lame, phony, corny, epic epic fail... how could they do this to Cap? It's bad enough you gotta pretend that's not Johnny Storm, but to put such a serious character out there looking like a dork is just sad.

I really do wish this movie doesn't bomb.

Shield kinda look small though...
Costume is ok.
wings as paint is a cool approach to the traditional look

I have seen nicer things floating in a public restroom toilet! This costume looks like Crap! The character Captain America is 70 years old and has had a look that has lasted through the ages and is world known. Why do they always have to F$$# with a good thing. Look what they did to G.I. Joe! USE the comics as you concept art and reference material! Learn from the mistakes of others and give the real fans what they want, and not just some half-ass power rangers reject. Make my words the movie will flop! BTW Nick Fury and the King Pin Should be White! If you have an issue with that read the original comics! Joe Quesada sucks!

Very cool costume. Only personal issue is his Sam Browne is going the wrong way, like a 18th Century Pouch belt rather than a WWI/WWII military belt.
The bullet marks on the shield are quite obvious though, the metal is almost but not quite indestructible however the paint could be regular paint, hence why they are just discoloured patches, and judging by the troopers in the background this is more modernish Captain America than full original...

Great photo...
but do all of these movie posts have to come ages after dozens of other websites have already disclosed the news? I mean, its kind of pathetic. Get some sources, not other blogs.

I know what I'm wearing for holloween!
Nothing. And if you have a problem with my freedom, I'll throw my shield at your skull.

The wing design on the mask is a nice touch. Now if only they would explain bullet marks on an indestuctible shield.

The year for superhero movies starts.
Peatore
Remove the Shield and he wouldn't look out of place in a GI-Joe cartoon.
