Markus “Notch” Persson, creator of the phenomenally popular PC title Minecraft, just announced via Twitter that sales for the block-based building/survival game have now surpassed 1 million copies. This would be an impressive achievement for any game, but the fact that Minecraft just went beta last month is just remarkable.
As of this writing, 1,000,190 people have “bought” Minecraft. This figure refers to users who have created premium accounts, which includes people who purchased the game and gifted it to a friend. I don’t have the official stats yet, but I’m pretty sure Stephen “M-M-Minecraft!” Johnson personally gifted over 45,056 copies to friends, family, and colleagues, but I’ll let you know when I nail down those figures.
How many of those 1 million copies were you responsible for buying?
Should the need arise, feel free to E-Mail me your tips, suggestions, and/or personal philosophies, or follow me on Twitter.

1,000,190 people purchasing Minecraft = 1,000,190 pixel penises built. It's inevitable!

I just got the game and I love it.

I can't tell you how many hours I've played this game. Congrats Notch & Mojang, it's well earned. If you haven't at least tried this game yet, you're missing out. You can still pick up the Classic version for free @ minecraft.net!

This game is incredible! I've put so many hours into it! If you get bored with your world, you can just start a new one and will be fresh again! Amazing game! Especially since it just became beta!

Punching sand or the side of a tree used to mean something on the lines of becoming a kung-fu master. Now it just means you're trying to recreate the deathstar for the ninth time.

MINECRAFT!!! Its wonderful that this game is getting the attention it deserves! I threw down the money as soon as i saw the first article from G4 about it, and i did it without thinking twice! Anyway, minecraft is great, i cant wait for Minecraft II... wait... its still in Beta? Judging by the pattern we see with every other game i could have sworn that it was rushed and a sequel was already coming out...!

Minecraft is great, and I'm excited (as a paying member since alpha) to see how the game will grow. I bought it after just seeing one gameplay video and never regretted it. Sometimes it's just relaxing to pop in the game and continue a grand world I've crafted into.

I love minecraft and all, but i'd love to see Notch (the one-man dev team) get employed by bethesda or something. When you can build a game of Minecraft's scale, brilliance and design on your own, I'd love to see what you could do with a full stdio behind him. Maybe they should let him work on the New Vegas type game to Skyrim's Fallout 3.

The game rocks. I can't wait to see whats to come with the dev team up from 1. Hopefully some real game objectives in the future, but right now you just have to set your own.
