Since DC Universe Online is available now, many MMO gamers want to know if the game is similar to City of Heroes. Luckily, we compared these two MMOs to find out how each character creation system works, how the gameplay mechanics operate, and how they compare graphically. Are you leaning more towards the DC universe? Or do you want to stay within the City of Heroes? Perhaps our comparison video will help.

CoH may be over 6 years old, but the graphics upgrade they did pretty much brought them up to speed.
That being said, DCUO is severely lacking in customization compared to CoH. No matter what power (note single) you pick, you always have a fast melee attack and a ranged attack at the start. In CoH, fire not only does different things than cold attacks but they look different and the attack ITSELF can also be customized. So if you want to shoot green fire, you can.
DCUO should make PS3 users happy but the PC users should stick with CoH.

I beta tested dc universe online and I thought the comparison with city of heroes and villains was pretty fair given the age. pc games can always be upgraded whereas console versions of the games don't really get upgraded that often. city of heroes and villains has a better character customization than dc universe, mainly because not everybody is going to be a muscular superhero type... there are fat people in the real world, but dc universe does the gameplay a bit better.

COH was released in '04 but it is hardly static, it has constant game engine changes, stories added, and the AE system that lets players make their own stories. It has a stong community, player based fiction and radio stations, DCUO's main point of advertising has seemed to me to be "Hey hang out with Superman!"
Personally I would not have used a dual pistol versus a fire based powers comparison unless I wanted to make one game look better. Fire based blaster, tanker, or Bot Mastermind would be much more flashy, and more visually appealing. Lets not even get into the fact a considerable amount of the video showed the CoH player in Praetoria getting on a train then teleporting instead of you know, shooting things.
I intend to try out DCUO for at least a month, as I did CO and STO, but they just couldn't hold my interest with their gameplay or graphics as they didn't have a real difference to give to CoH.

I was a early beta tester for COH and I loved it all the way through COV and beta tested that. Was the smoothest beta test I ever did. I also feel this isn't a fair comparison. I would hope that DC would look much better than COH since the latter has been out longer. DC will be fun just like COH was

Best parts of both games are the character generators... Both are pretty boring ... Same with Champions Online. But City of Heroes did add a way to make your own story lines and such... I never got to try that but this isn't a fair comparison anyways with COH being so old. Definately won't be getting DCO for my PS3 though.. Just didn't live up to expectations for me.

They both look pretty much the same to me only difference for me is that City of Heroes never released on a console while DC Universe is on PlayStation 3 that automatically makes it a winner for me.

They're comparing a game released in 2004 to a game released today? Wouldn't a better comparison be between DCUO and Champions Online?

Well of course DC is going to look better. This really shows how flat CoH really is in terms of textures and visual effects. The only draw back is I'm going to have to get a better PC before I can even think about getting DC.

to me this video just shows how boring city of heroes is :/ dc univere seems much more active then the city of heroes formula of hit attack stand there for 10 minutes while an attack cools down then rinse and repeat.
