Out with the old; in with the new. Or so they say. In this case, “they” being Nintendo. According to Kotaku via a Japanese retailer, the DSi is currently no longer in production and the only remaining units are those currently in-stock at retail outlets across the country.
The original DSi, you’ll recall, was a sleeker, slimmer affair over the original DS with an additional low-res camera. The remaining DSi’s on the market are apparently selling out quite fast while the DSiXL – a larger version of the handheld, seen above – is still in production.
Whether this is a deliberate move in advance of the release of the 3DS, Nintendo’s handheld 3D gaming console, isn’t entirely clear. But sweeping the market of competing or potentially confusing SKU’s seems like a likely strategy here.
