To most of us geeks of the world, Nathan Fillion represents the perfect casting of just about any character ever, but perhaps never moreso than that of Nathan Drake, the wry, yet capable hero of the Uncharted franchise. And to those very same geeks, Uncharted represents perhaps the most appropriate, action-packed and ultimately imaginable game-to-film property circulating in Hollywood today. Too bad that when the Uncharted movie finally releases, it’ll have none of those elements whatsoever.
Rumors that Mark Wahlberg – whose performance is currently being bolstered by the exceptional Christian Bale in The Fighter – is a lock for the role appear true as the actor continues to discuss the title on the film’s press tour, practically confirming to site MovieHole that he is, in fact, attached to play the sardonic hero.
“David O. Russell is writing right now and hopes to direct,” said Wahlberg. “It’s myself, Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro.”
Now, that could all be premature if Russell isn’t yet a lock to direct, as any other director could substantially change the casting, tone and indeed the script itself. But as it stands, with Russell and his former collaborator Wahlberg namedropping the project with such frequency, it feels like the pair is giving both studios and fans the hard sell. Despite the fact that Russell has previously stated that he wants to turn the film into an adventure about a family of antiquities experts. We’re hoping he means “family” in that “your friends are your 21st century family” kind of way. Otherwise, that’d be a drastic change to the Drake / Sully / Alluring Female scenario of games past.
What do you think? Who’d be right for the Uncharted film? Or will Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception be cinematic enough to make a movie redundant?

I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't use the Uncharted name.

I've seen every horrible video game movie, and I'm not seeing this. Nope. Never. never.

How about this? How about we dont get a movie at all, we dont want one.Its only gonna make the franchise look bad. Hollywood needs to stop giving us bad movies with bad actors and leave us gamers alone.

When playing Uncharted, one of the qualities about Drake that I love the most is how funny and clever he can be, some of his one-liners absolutely crack me up. He isn't a goofy comedian or anything, but Drake is very witty.
WIth that in mind, go watch The Other Guys, one of the few films to show of Marky Mark's comedy chops. If you can watch that film and show me a scene where Mark Wahlberg is even remotely funny, I'll eat my controller.

.....OR we could just wait for National Treasure 3.

Screw the movie, I would rather play Uncharted 2 over

Will all of you film critics just shut up. The movie hasn't even started production, and already you guys are looking forward to it being a bad movie. Let's just wait and see what they come up with before we start throwing rotten tomatoes at the screen.

Just think how long it has taken for film studios to get super hero movies right. It will be another 10 years before they make a decent game adaptation.

Another episode of Hollywood alienating the core audience to appeal to a widder group. The problem is that the wider audience wont "get" the appeal of the movie, tus creating another failed videogame movie.

AGREED
if Fillion cannot get the role, (and i cant see why he cant beef-up for the part either -- all he needs a a trainer), then Joe Flnannigan. Hollywood must start making movies for their Audiance and not for their Accounts...and wouldnt be cool to have Claudia Black reprise her role in live-acation alongside Joe (Stargate reunion) LOL

really?!?! mark wahlberg, i cant picture this because a good portion of playing Nathan drake is the humor and likeabilty I just dont see Wahlberg playing the part well to match up with the games personality , i think Ryan Reynolds is more of a Nathan Drake right now.....

I think the fans' opinions should matter much more than this. To a lot of people the film will just look like a standard action-adventure, and while those have a large appeal it's the fans that will ultimately determine the success of adaptions like this. I just hope this movie doesn't mar the reputation of great, cinematic story- and character-driven games.
On a side note, I've never seen any of Nolan North's live action roles, but from pictures I've seen of him he and Drake look similar. I wonder if he was even considered?

I would like to see Hugh Laurie play Sully myself.

Wahlberg is most assuredly not the right fit for Drake, I just don't see it. If Fillion can't get the role I would have loved to see Joe Flannigan of Stargate fame play ol' Nate, his character of John Sheppard is practically Nathan Drake already.

This is just going to be sad.. Period. Not even going to try and see this film.. maybe in a few years when it is on Cable TV when there is absolutely nothing else to watch. MAYBE.

Wahlberg is good, but Fillion would definitely be better. My big concern is the director, and having Pesci and DeNiro in the movie. They don't seem like a good fit, and this talk of the "family of archaeologists" does not fit the tone. Gimme JK Simmons as Sully and random hot girl as random hot girl, and we'll be good to go.
Aliasvs.Editor
Wahlberg was not my first choice to play Drake but now that I think about it he does look perfect for the part. but he doesn't seem witty enough to capture all of Drake's character
BigPoppaChunk
mark wahlberg is to short and to muscular to be drake why is wahlberg cast in all video game movies . they should get a unknown free runner to do the part the acting isn't the sellar it's the action.
blueboykc
well fillion might not be a perfect fit but hes a lot better of a fit than whalberg is..and wtf is with the de niro and pesci thing? i dont get the thinking on that at all..who they are they trying to appeal to with that?
