The iPhone is coming to the Verizon network. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, Verizon to make the announcement at an event Tuesday in New York City.
This development will shake up the entire cell-phone world, as the monopoly that AT&T has held as Apple's carrier is set to end, leading to competition for iPhone users' plans, as well as, hopefully, lower prices. Smaller players in the market will be affected as well -- the two biggest players in the industry will be offering the most popular phone, essentially freezing out smaller players, for the time being.
"This is the worst case scenario for the other carriers," said Roger Entner of Recon Analytics to the Wall Street Journal. "When Verizon comes out with the iPhone, there's only one carrier in the U.S. that will gain customers, and that's Verizon."
AT&T has been the exclusive carrier for iPhones since the device was launched in 2007, but it hasn't had that much competition from other phones, until recently with the steady creeping up in use of Google's Android phone.

thats good news but knowing Verizon and there hidden fees people will be complaining about those Surcharge that is going to be coming on the bill. Not to mention thir lame excuses why you keep getting those hidden fees. Not hating on there success an the loyal fans of them but i am just giving out my experience with them.

What i have never understood was how everyone can be so mad at at&t? They are the only carrier that picked up the iPhone when no one else did. yes their service lags a bit, and in some places a lot. But to their credit who really thought that the iPhone would become such a huge hit. To blame at&t for not having their network ready for the millions of iphones and new customers that use their network is wrong well at least i think so. I think the only people that thought the iPhone would be this popular is APPLE. When i bought the first iPhone all i heard was how is apple gonna compete in the phone biz. they are late. Well to make it short for every good thing about the phone i heard i heard 10 bad. The iPhone has changed the phone biz forever. I think AT&T deserves some credit and praise for bring us the iPhone. Android powered phones will never be as popular as the iPhone, im sorry. It will never happen. I have a evo 4g and an iPhone 3gs i love both phones, so don't think im some kind of apple fanboy. At the moment i use my evo 4g. I left AT&T because the of the price of their service. I get a bigger discount for having sprint so i left. I know im gonna get hit bashed like crazy but I don't care.

I'm pretty sure this is rather old news Fortune had an article on this at the end of October. Also the increase in data usage on the Verizon network could lead to similar problems AT&T has now. And the Verizon network will also not allow you to make calls and use the internet at the same time... so no more making reservations at your favorite restaurant while still on the phone with grandma

Just got a new Droid Incredible with a new 2-year contract. Though I am waiting for this to be true, I won't be able to get an iPhone until the iPhone 6 comes out.

On my part, I've been waiting for this for years I probably have the worlds oldest cell phone be because I've been saving my upgrade since 2007 for an iPhone.
The only thing that sucks is I bought an iPod touch only a few months ago because I thought it would still be years before this happened.

Most (if not all) Apple band wagon fans would kill them selves for Steve Jobs or suck his worm for his company. I still didn't see him as the wealthiest or most technological or advanced company in the world yet. So he sharpened a few tools. Doesn't everybody?
I still see his company as a stepping stone but not the way we should go. People should have choices. I now go with Android. I have seen both sides but realize that it is only getting better every day.
I just don't see Apple being competitive in the next 10 years. Call me crazy, but didn't Apple say the same thing 20 years ago??? It took them some time to come back and bill dollars from Bill Gates (and Bill is still getting paid by Steve - you can bet your bottom dollar on that one since Bill till owns about 40% of Apple shares).
Well, I have made some fans all mad by now and am going to watch and laugh about now as I cash my next million dollar check. ;)

Here in Canada, Apple makes phone companies charge at least $50 for plans so I assume they're doing something similar in the U.S.

Now that I went with Verizon (because AT&T sucks) and got a Droid, I don't see myself ever leaving Android. I absolutely love my Droid X now and really, I've invested in all my Droid Apps and Gmail Contacts...
I don't see anything iPhone could offer me that Android can't...
(with the exception of iPhone being the Xbox 360/PS2 of the Phone Community. Meaning that when it was PS2 and Xbox Game Developers of the bigger better games where more focused on the PS2 and Vice Versa with the Xbox 360 and PS3. iPhone has all the Apps sooner then Android which sucks a bit)

Verizon is great but their prices are too high for me and all I have is an old flip phone with 450 min./mo. for $46. I'd love to get an iphone but am guessing service will be priced higher and I need lower. Thinking about going with Virgin Mobile prepaid and they have the best deal on 3G internet 40/month unlimited. Just went to their site and it says they also have the best smartphone deal for $25/month. Now when will they get the iphone?

You know G4 it is a little upsetting that you guys jump on the Apple releases like this. When Google brought out Gingerbread half of all the updates were geared towards gaming and creating a more valuable OS for game designers. I know all of you aren't iPhone users and that your not against anyone's OS, but it would have been nice to hear something on Feedback about this. Especially considering that Android has gained the highest sales now. My point is that you guys may not be fanboys, but I can tell which OS many of you seem to have a personal relationship with and seem more invested in.
To make a point about it. Did any of you ever cover the info on Sony's PlayStation android device, or that a lot of these new Android devices are shipping with 3D chips and serious power just for gaming and media? If you did I would really like to hear more of your thoughts on that.
