OnLive On Sale For $66 During CES 2011; Surround Sound, Vizio Integration On The Way

Game streaming service OnLive is offering a special sale this week to celebrate CES 2011. For $66, purchasers get the OnLive MicroConsole adapter, a wireless controller, an HDMI cable, and one free game. In addition, OnLive will receive SRS 5.1 Surround Sound support via a free update in “early 2011."

OnLive also announced today a new partnership with HDTV manufacturer Vizio that will result in OnLive being built in to the new line of Vizio VIA Plus 3D televisions as well as the company’s new line of VIA Blu-ray players, Android tablets, and smartphones.

The Vizio products, which are due out later this year, and new surround sound feature will be demoed during CES this week in Las Vegas. G4 will be on hand to bring you all of the latest from the show, so expect more details later in the week.

Anyone out there currently using OnLive, either on their PC/Mac or the TV adapter? How is it? Do you think the service has legs, or is it only a matter of time before it fizzles out?

Should the need arise, feel free to E-Mail me your tips, suggestions, and/or personal philosophies, or follow me on Twitter.

onlive !! well i own a 360,ps3,wii,psp and my kids ds's i don't have onlive and i'm not in a rush to get it . with that said.

i can plainly see if some of the rough edges get smoothed this will be a console killer if they can fix framerate and a solid storage system the prices are right and if they can match steams prices watchout microsoft and sony this maybe a joke now to some.

but if i can buy a current game for less than 360 and ps3 and have a free online service better then ps3 with lobbies and maych making who would pay more elsewhere.

give it a year if it gets a update or two some apps built in your tv already their like netflix and hulu, great for hotels abd traveling, don't hate wait and see.

On the PC, I was not impressed. I have a PC capable of running anything on the market on maxed settings with internet speeds to match. Still, OnLive looked like crap. I just loved the idea of renting PC games, so I decided to buy the home console and try that instead.

It was worth it. The home console looks much, much better. The control lag is almost nonexistent, and the clarity was greatly improved.

I can't take digital distribution, it's nice if physical copies of things are hard to obtain, but a physical copy will ALWAYS be my first choice when buying new media. Plus, I've heard that your games bought through OnLive basically go away after 3 years, and you must purchase them again.

They have a plan where you can play a bunch of games for $9.99 a month. However, some of the top games you have to buy. As the person posted above, you can't keep the game you bought if you leave the service.

How much do games cost on this?

I would make a jump to this if you were to somehow sale the games you purchased. I am not big on downloadable games or online only games because you cannot resale them. Maybe have a feature where you can cancel your service with the game and get a partial refund then I'd make the jump over.

"Strong internet and a weak computer" eh?

Too little, too late, OnLive. I'm pretty sure PC players were looking for that since either XP or Steam came out.

For people who can't afford much including me this sounds great. I hope it gets better and better, especially the Blu-ray players with OnLive built in coming. Other than people not liking the name I haven't heard anything real negative about it. I think later on I'll definitely try it if I'm not broke.

I have it on my laptop and it is really good if you have strong internet and a weak computer for gaming.(which i have) So i see the appeal and do think it has an audience. But I'm staying with my console. I do recommend it for people who want to play games on their pc but don't have a powerful pc. But the real setback right now is the small library. If I do get a new tv later this year i think it would be cool with the onlive integration for playing games without moving my console.

It sounds cool but I will stick to PC gaming for this kind of idea on Steam. Steam FTW.
