To ring in the new year, please enjoy some news of a movie tie-in game! Warner Bros. released some semi-tantalizing details about the inevitable video game that will accompany the release of The Green Lantern. Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters will be a multi-platform game and is planned for release on June 1st, a few weeks before the June 17 movie premiere. The game will star Ryan Reynolds' voice and likeness, although we don't know if any other stars of the movie will be appearing in video game form.
"Just what are these Manhunters who are rising?" you may be asking. According to Warner Brothers, they are:
"An android race, originally created by the Guardians of the Universe to serve as the first interstellar police force. The Manhunters became more obsessed with administering punishment than serving justice, forcing the Guardians to dissolve their ranks. The few Manhunters that survived fled into exile and the Guardians founded a new elite police force called the Green Lantern Corps and armed its members with specially crafted power rings. Now the Manhunters are back and out for revenge, readying their forces for a war against the Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps. Faced with destruction, the Corps is looking to you as the newest recruit, gifted but cocky test pilot Hal Jordon, to protect peace and preserve justice."
They are also the Green Lanterns' mortal enemies. To combat them, you will...
- Master the Ring: Wield the Green Lantern Power Ring to create a spectacular range of “hard-light” constructs including a gatling gun, giant fists, and much more, all of which can be linked together to form an endless number of combinations.
- Stand Together: Join forces with a friend to play as Hal Jordan or Sinestro to battle the Manhunters, with the ability to drop in or out at will.
- Take Flight: Dodge, blast, and destroy legions of enemies as you soar across the universe in battles of intergalactic scope.
Because my new year's resolutions include not being judgmental, I will not analyze this game until I've played it... But you guys can feel free to judge all you like in our comment section!

Movie tie-in games reek like baboon turds. Seriously though, why are tie-in games always pressed to come out right before a movie? Why not in the months after? Why do these developers almost always decide to "let the gamer play the story"? Why not expand the ideas put forth in the movie(s) and let these tie-in games tell the "what if" story or the "wouldn't it be cool if..." story. Seems to me that the only successful movie tie-in game/series is the Lord of the Rings games and if I remember correctly, those games didn't come out until well after the movies were out in theaters.
So why don't other developer studios follow that formula and put out good movie tie-ins that people will actually like....

DCU Online already has the Green Lantern's and Sinestro Corps and It won't be long until they start giving out power-rings. Plus with such a generalized power as "can create anything he wants to out of hard-light" it's bound to be deemed to restrictive. Better waiting for the Blue, Red, Green, Yellow, Orange, Pink, Purple, Black and White rings to come out for DC Universe Online, because you know it's going to be add-on content one way or the other.

So it's not based on the movie meaning it'll be okay to play before the movie. Looks like a rent b/c I'm a big GL fan.

Here's another detail they should have revealed: It's going to suck.

I think if your going to make a green lantren game then you should be able to costimize you hard light constructs other wise its just going to get lame and repitive fast.
Tylerr
Prob the only good thing thats going to come out of making this movie.
Albeit this game will fail just like the movie, but its still a green lantern game.

the only movie-video game that was kinda decent was Spiderman 2 and that was only because you could explore, they shouldent even make this game.....preview : -0.56/5

You forgot one thing on that list of features: How much its going to suck like pretty much every other licensed movie game to date.
