Epic Games plans on revealing a new IP at next year's Game Developers Conference. In a recent interview with EGM Epic's Cliff Bleszinski gave some insight on Epic's future announcements and their hopes to reveal their new IP in early 2011. Details were scarce but he did assure gamers to keep their "eyes peeled at GDC."
Epic is known for their shooters like the Gears of War and Unreal Tournament franchises. We're not sure if the new IP will follow the same game-style as their previous IPs. Prototype's lead designer, Eric Holmes, is currently working on the new Epic IP. Cliff went on to say, "I believe game designers are the Stan Lees and Jack Kirbys of our day, and we're creating these universes that leave a huge impact on people. Gamers votes with their dollars and they often like established IP, but those IPs came from somewhere, right? Call of Duty was crafted by the original Medal of Honor guys. Gears of War was crafted by the original Unreal Tournament guy. I look forward to creating what's next."
Epic's third-person shooter Gears of War 3 was recently postponed as was their promised VGA announcement. I can't wait to see what Epic has up their sleeves but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if this announcement was delayed too. GDC 2011 starts on February 28th and you can be sure we'll be covering all the announcements.
