Website Torrentfreak has revealed its list of the top 10 most pirated video* games of 2010. The "winner" of this dubious honor for the PC: Call of Duty: Black Ops. Weirdly, for the 360, the most pirated title was Dante's Inferno, a solid game, but not a title on the top of many other "top of 2010" lists.
Click the cut for the full list of PC, 360 and Wii pirated titles.
PC Games:
1 Call of Duty: Black Ops (4,270,000)
2 Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (3,960,000) 3 Mafia 2 (3,550,000)
4 Mass Effect 2 (3,240,000)
5 Starcraft II (3,120,000)
Wii Games:
1 Super Mario Galaxy 2 (1,470,000)
2 Wii Party (1,220,000)
3 Donkey Kong Country Returns (920,000)
4 Kirbys Epic Yarn (880,000)
5 Red Steel 2 (850,000)
Xbox 360 Games:
1 Dante’s Inferno (1,280,000)
2 Alan Wake (1,140,000)
3 Red Dead Redemption (1,060,000)
4 Halo Reach (990,000)

one thing i feel wasnt mentioned as far as dantes inferno being most pirated i havent played it so please forgive if im wrong but its single player only wich means most ppl will play through a couple times then never touch again but also means that a pirated copy will be sufficent long enough to get what you want out of it if you pirate say blak ops or bad company2 unless your very luky sooner or later a patch is gonna be released your 360 will auto update and your pirated copy probly wont work anymore i would assume this is less of an issue with a game like dantes inferno i dunno mayb im wrong but makes snse to me

I personally don't pirate anything that I can buy as far as games go, but, I understand why people do it. Everyone on here that says people should be "Kicked in the nuts" or whatever for pirating, think about this. You work 40 hours a week, and you have rent/house note, and other bills that go along with it. Your money is tired up, and you have a day off. Now, just because you don't have the cash, you can't enjoy yourself? Get real. Some of us have money, some of us don't. You want something bad enough, your gonna find a way to get it.

Dantes Inferno is an awsome game. It should have sold better now I see this and now I see why it didn't sell well.

I pirated Mass Effect 1 and 2. Then after having played through both 4 times each, went and bought both copies for pc. And the collector's edition of ME2. Along with ALL the DLC for both games. Most pirates use pirating as a means of testing a game before they buy seeing as we don't have the luxury of renting something. Besides you console jockeys and your "used games" hurt the industry more than pirating ever could. Whats the solution? Stop making games cost $60 or $50 damn dollars. Make them $40, keep them the same size and quality as they are now, and release hefty DLC to rake money in on the same product later on in the year. Games could sell for $40 and still make big time profits, especially when you calculate DLC into the equation.

I bought this for 12 dollars on half.com. People aren't pirating Dante's Inferno because they don't feel it's worth buying. It's an amazing game, and totally worth the 12 dollars I spent on it.
Pirates should be shot, hands down. But developers should make you WANT to buy a game too. I wouldn't pirate WOW because I know that the fun part of the game is being online. Black Ops is a good example, who would pirate this? The single player game is trash.

you should all come to Canada where piracy is legal. you wont see a poor mother of 3 get sued by some greedy company for millions of dollars for downloading a computer file here. yet.

As a staunch supporter of our gaming industry, I can say that I treat it much like I treat music. I download ( pirate ) a sample. If I like it ( within a small sample ), I buy. For example, I torrented Civ4. I've since bought Civ4 AND 5 to support the people that produced the games. The few times ( which are not often AT ALL ) that I've pirated a game and didn't like it, I knew within a few hours and promptly deleted them. Did I cheat them? No... I stopped them from cheating me.
Mass Effect 2 ( for another example ) was bought for 60 dollars new on the first day. I also have purchased every DLC for it because I knew I was going to enjoy it. Bad movies cost 10 dollars ( unless you're buying blu-ray movies that you know nothing about... in which case I call you an idiot ), but bad games cost anywhere between 40 and 60+ dollars.
I'm not a bad person. I just like to make sure that the people I support are worth my investment.

I'm a pirate with a code. If I truly enjoy something, I WILL buy it, so long as a purchase can still support the devs. If I don't, well, the company wouldn't get my money in the first place, so no loss.
I will say this: the people that pirate and refuse to support the devs of the games they like sicken me. They say they love it, and yet refuse to compensate the creators for their hard work. Every time I see a great game go by without the sales numbers it deserves, but a bunch of people gushing about it on torrent sites, I am deeply saddened. Seriously, brilliant games like MadWorld were loved on pretty much every torrent site I see, but the sales numbers are far, FAR too low to justify a sequel.
If you're a pirate: I'm not going to stop my own kind. However, please, PLEASE support the people who create the brilliance you love. If you refuse to, you are a petty thief.
That is all.

Where are psp and DS on this list?

3 Mafia 2 (3,550,000)
dante's is so high because the people who pirate the game to see if it is good before dropping60-70 on it found out it isn't worth the paper the cash is printed on.
I am surprised black ops isn't higher on the 360!!
The_Great_Pyro
Did anyone else notice that there is no number three on the PC list, just 1-2-4-5.

Dante's Inferno was an alright game. I never brought it, but it was a good game. It wasn't God of War 3 by any means.
VoideX7
Oh please Dante inferno was awesome!
NocturnalX
Yeah...Dantes Inferno screams too be pirated.'Let's look at the facts
No replayability really, a horribly butchered/altered version of the Inferno story, and broken God of War gameplay. I went through the most of game spamming the x button. Eventually, I was able to just spam the crosses. I never finished the game. It was way too boring.
Malapropism
dante's inferno is the most pirated game of 2010?
how?
or at least what is it about the game that draws that many people to want it?

@HandzReaper
ya we don't know what we're talking about it is the hardest piece of technology to date to hack. Check your facts.

I hate when people pirate video games, unlike music and movies, video game publishers and developers can't make a majority of their money off of box office release and concerts. Also it's even worse how big the numbers are on PC, seriously steam has so many cheap deals you might as well fork over the money and support the companies.
koolboricua
i wonder how could this ever end? even with the new AP 2.5 for 360 piracy still going on. I think MS should hire all those FW maker and pay them to created a better anti piracy. But i also think that this people do already work for them, thats how they know how well to create a FW.
DooMTacK
I sometimes pirate games while I can't afford it, and purchase them later on when I can afford it (if I actually played it out). At the end of the day, if the developers deserve my money, they will get it. If they don't, then I wasted my own time...
jungan
If you pirate games you should be drawn and quartered, while being kicked in the nuts.
