Our Five Favorite Games of 2010: Wade Beckett

Wade Beckett is the Executive Producer for X-Play, which means most of his days are spent thinking of ways to get Adam and Morgan into wacky costumes. He's also a big fan of the Tron: Evolution video game soundtrack, which is sadly the best thing about that game. Oh, and he loves NPR. Who knew?

Def Jam Rapstar

Party … starter. While I will admit that Rock Band 3 is a far superior game (nice job, Harmonix) and offers far greater replayability - I’ve just gotta give it up to Rapstar. Hip hop is the music of today and videogames are the biggest form of entertainment on the planet so it’s a no brainer, right? Well it sure took a while. Hip hop has been relegated to sports soundtracks and GTA (and GTA rip offs), so it’s nice to see that fans of the genre have a music game they can play. Biggie, 2Pac, Slick Rick and Public Enemy? Nuff said.

NBA 2K11

The game is smooth like butter. Plus, I thought it was a bold move by 2K to bring it back to his Airness for the cover. If you are going to put the greatest on the cover then you had better bring it, and 2K Sports did. Best basketball videogame ever (although I did love me some Double Dribble with my little brother growing up). On a side note I’ve purchased 6 pairs of Jordan’s this year.

Halo: Reach

Reach represents the culmination of a gajillion years of Bungie’s work on the franchise and it’s a beautiful game. I’m still utterly confused by the story, but Marty O’Donnel’s epic scores immerse me and always make me forget that I’m so perplexed by what the heck is going on with the narrative. Dude, I knew it was going to end badly for Noble team early!

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Treyarch really stepped it up this year with Black Ops. I think they need to add new DLC where X-Play’s Canadian Guy fights alongside Nixon. Also, I knew this game was going to be a monster hit when my dad and his farmer friends in Madera were aware of the launch date. Still wouldn’t be caught dead in one of those Jeeps though.

Plants vs Zombies for the iPad

So simple yet SO VERY GOOD! This game got me through countless flights and is the main reason why my girlfriend constantly steals my iPad.
