The Mass Effect 2 demo on the PS3 is available to download on the PlayStation Network and according to BioWare, the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 will be using the Mass Effect 3 engine to provide a smoother gameplay experience. Is that true? How does the PlayStation 3 version compare to the Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect 2? We put this question to the test to find out the differences and similarities between the demo on both consoles. Check out our Mass Effect 2 PS3 vs Xbox 360 comparison video down below and share your thoughts on the topic. Can you see the Mass Effect 3 engine in action?

Mass Effect 2 PS3 vs Xbox 360 Comparison Video »

My thoughts while I was playing both versions in the comparison video: the PS3 version felt smoother when running through the levels and interacting with different objects. I don't see any major graphical improvements on the PS3 other than slight lighting adjustments. I'm glad PlayStation gamers have a chance to experience a great action RPG game, but hopefully the Mass Effect 3 engine will show it's true potential when Mass Effect 3 comes out later next year.

What do you think?

There is a clear difference, but its unfair to compare them knowing that the ps3 version was fixed up trying out the mass effect 3 upgrades. Well either way im glad i can play it on my ps3 even though i have both systems the whole multy disc kept me from buying it.(Yes blue ray discs have spoiled me.) lol

I'd have to go with the 360 on this one. The ps3 looks good but there is some definite screen tearing and lighting issues. I also noticed the black eyelids in the ps3 version for commander shepard. Sorry 36 has you beat on this one sony.

one thing i noticed is that some parts looked more detailed on ps3 others more on 360 but i dont think that has to do with the systems it might be the updated engine or maybe something else who knows

IMO run the vid without the console labels and let people try to figure it out without preconceptions.

The PS3 version of these games are always going to be better because it has better hardware than the 360. These videos are pointless because fanboys aren't going to care about the evidence and everyone else doesn't care either. All that matters is what your console of choice is.

They look pretty much the same to me but IGN did a comparison vid and the PS3 version looked alot better then the 360 version in that vid. wonder why this one looks so weak.

The early part of the video is a crossed-eye stereogram in 3d

I agree that the demo felt a little smoother on PS3 compared to my 360, maybe due to the ME3 engine. However if you want an acurate comparison of the ME2 and ME3 engines...wait till ME3 comes out because this wont tell you anything. ME2 wasn't made on the ME3 engine therefore won't make a difference aside from smoothness and minor details

The lighting is slightly better on the PS3 version, but that's all I see.

What kind of a retarded comparison is this, at a quarter resolution even in HD version? Really???

Not to mention that on iPad you get even less than that (1/8th resolution max?).

If you want real comparison - go to Eurogamer.

Also, on iPad this site offers even quarter of this quarter resolution. Awesome!

I watched it in HD and the PS3 version seems to be a little clearer when the scene is darker.

Also in space when they show the stars, PS3 version seems just a bit more defined than the 360 version.

But other than this, there is hardly any difference.
