The PlayStation 3's fast-car simulator, Gran Turismo 5, just got a huge update, bringing the title closer to a complete game! Sony has also begun round one of their GT Academy contest, where the top drivers in the U.S. compete for a chance to become a real race car driver.
First, the update. Here's what's being added to Gran Turismo 5, straight from the PlayStation Blog:
- Seasonal Events
The Seasonal Events area has been added to the main GT Life screen. From here you can participate in official online events that will be open for a limited time only. Each event has specific entry and race conditions, and completing events earns you rewards and experience points. Compete here to see how you stack up to the rest of the world on the global leaderboards in the time trials and drift trial events. - Online Race Rewards and Experience
When you complete a race in the [Open Lobby] or [My Lounge], you will now gain rewards and experience. Even if you are focused more on playing online, you’ll still be able to gain rewards and levels that you need to progress in [GT Life]. - Hot Car Dealer
A new specialized dealership has also been added to the main GT Life screen, making it much easier to find popular and rare used cars compared to the standard Used Car Dealer. - Distance Driven and Number of Wins in Online Races
Your total distance driven online, and the number of wins you achieve in Open Lobby and My Lounge will now add to your Profile and Garage stats. - Improved Rewards for Playing
Earn increased rewards for winning races in both A-Spec and B-Spec mode through the end of January only. Now’s the perfect chance to rack up points, build up your garage, and get ahead in the game
GT Academy pits virtual drivers from all over the U.S. in races to determine who is greatest of all. Participants will compete in a series of rounds, with the best of each moving ahead to the next level. Eventually, one, lone heroic driver will be left, and he/she will be trained as a real driver and get to compete in a real endurance race. The competition will be documented in a GT Academy reality show that will air on the SPEED channel and PlayStation Network.

I haven't done an update for it in a while. Have they added leaderboards yet? That's what I want the most.

Thats because " Gran Turismo 5 " is one huge mess, and not worth the entry price !

GT5 was always a complete game but I agree that this update is a welcome addition to the game, especially the specialized dealership.

Every time I watch anything in 3d all I can think is, "why are they trying so hard to push this garbage on us when it's clearly not good enough yet" and "maybe if you didn't need glasses it would be decent" the game looks sick though, I'm definitely going to rent it.

Played GT5 in 3D at Sony Style. My first 3D game. Wow....seriously wow. The game is amazing. The 3D was spectacular. All I could think is "and people are still buying 360's" and "how does anyone not want 3D gaming"

Not really an ONLINE driver, only because I want to get 100% before I go online, and that will take awhile. Thanx for the update about the update, always good to see the game getting bigger n better
