Cheats and Walkthroughs
Lazarus Gaming's Taylor "PainUser" Parsons is a well known StarCraft 2 pro Terran player who took third place at the MLG StarCraft 2 National Championships earlier this year. As one of the final 16 players in the Evil Geniuses Master's Cup tournament this weekend, we wanted to take the time to chat with Taylor and find out what he's been up to since MLG. Check out the full interview after the break.
What did you think of the Evil Geniuses Master's Cup Series as a whole?
I thought it was really good aside from the fact I had to wake up daily at specific times for different rounds of the tournament. I wish they had condensed the tournament into fewer days and taken out larger chunks of the rounds per day.
Your games this time around were generally seen as one of the tournament's biggest upsets. If you had to do it all over again what would you have done differently, if anything?
I would WAYYYY over compensate on what I see, as opposed to assuming people will play intelligently.
Who surprised you the most in this tournament?
VT|bLuR has been doing really well lately and he made it pretty far. Kudos. IdrA's play was very impressive, as always.
What did you think of the Global Starcraft League (GSL) this season?
Lame games and lame finals again. Liquid`Jinro's run was awesome.
What about the GSL finals between oGsMC and TSL_Rain?
Can you tell us about your team, Lazarus Gaming?
Awesome team, supported by Noah Lazarus. Just like any other team I guess, except most of us are unknown up-and-comers instead of established StarCraft: Brood War players. But that's only natural considering its a new team.
What have you been up to since you won third place at MLG Dallas?
Took a really long break and now I'm practicing again. I've been at Lazarus' house boot camping with EG.Inka.
What's the next tournament you plan on participating in? What's next for you?
MLG or one of the upcoming GSL's when they open it back up to non Code-S players.
What's your practice regime like?
Spotty at best. I generally practice on specific match-ups and builds within those matchups with friends. Then, I ladder to test things out.
Who is your favorite player to watch and why?
I love watching Brat_OK. His Terran play seems very, very good to me.
Can you tell us a little bit about your website, Stratbunker?
Stratbunker is a lessons organizations of some of the players who played a ton in the StarCraft 2 beta and started to make a name for themselves. We pride ourselves on understanding SC2, not Brood War, because after all thats what people are paying lessons for. Many of the other sites boast talented Brood War players as coaches for StarCraft 2.
Are there any other projects you're working on?
At the moment I'm working on Lazarus Gaming things with Noah and figuring things out for the future.
What's the best advice you can give to up-and-coming players?
Practice, don't cheese, and play to get better.
What is the best way to become a more efficient player? (ie, not overmicroing, choosing when to macro, attack, harrass, etc)
Just think about what you do critically before, during, and after games.
You didn't play Brood War professionally like a lot of other players did. Do you think that this gives you an advantage or disadvantage when playing StarCraft 2?
A slight disadvantage in mechanics and different way of thinking in tactics. Overall probably a disadvantage.
How do you feel about the overall StarCraft 2 community and how it's developing? Where do you think it can go from here?
Great! The sky is the limit.
How did you first get started as a StarCraft 2 pro?
With a company called Skill-Capped. They decided I was good enough to warrant sending me to an MLG event. I did pretty well and took out White_RA and Liquid`Ret.
Describe your playstyle.
I favor longer matches, because they are more fun and I excel at them.
If you could add or change one thing about StarCraft 2 what would it be, and why?
I would reduce the strength of all-ins and stupid cheesy strategies aimed at catching your opponent off guard and snagging a quick win.
Besides StarCraft 2 what were some of your favorite games this year?
Hmmm, QuakeLive and Heroes of Newerth.
What games are you looking forward to next year?
Natural Selection 2 to finally release on Steam!!
Is there anything you wanted to add?
Thanks G4 for the interview, really appreciate it. Big thanks to Lazarus Gaming, special thanks to Noah for everything - www.lazarusgaming.com. Thanks to all my friends and family and my fans. Be sure to check out www.stratbunker.com and youtube.com/stratbunker - see you in StarCraft 2!
