Knights Contract officially has a release date. Namco Bandai's upcoming action game will be released on February 22, 2011. Knights Contract is multiplatform and will be released on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Along with confirming the launch date, Namco Bandai also released new gameplay screenshots and gamelpay footage. Based on these screenshots, I think the ESRB rating of M for Mature was a good call.

Knights Contract is set during brutal medieval times where witches are being exterminated. The game's protagonists are Heinrich, an immortal executioner, and Gretchen, a resurrected witch, who was initially killed by Heinrich. Despite the fact that Gretchan probably isn't Heinrich's biggest fan they have to work together to help save the land from an evil curse. Heinrich is armed with a scythe making sure the game has plenty of hack'n slash elements. Gretchen uses witchcraft, which offers a balance to the overwhelming violence.
Judging by the gameplay footage I can see how one might think this will be like God of War but I think this game has potential to be something uniquely awesome. What do you think?

I see elements comparable to God of War, Bayonetta and Final Fantasy. It's a new flavor but I'll stick to the forerunners of the genre.
Admirable work though.

Why wouldn't you start out the fight with the giant-burning-pendulum-blade-t hingy? Big DMC & Gauntlet fan (and this game looks like a combination of the two), so I may just have to keep an eye on this.

The game play looks good, so do the visuals. As long as the story is strong i'll absolutely give it a go.

Scythes are impractical weapons. Otherwise this game looks good.

From the video, it looks like Gauntlet and Devil May Cry put together.
AWESOME.

I still see a hack and slash game when I look at the footage. Which isn't always a bad thing. As long as the game includes some original elements to make the game stand out from other hack and slash adventure games, then it should be worth playing.
