Our Five Favorite Games of 2010: Abbie Heppe

Abbie Heppe is the Senior Game Content Producer at G4, and her job consists mostly of kicking ass, and taking names. Oh, and she's also a pinball wizard, so don't mess with her.

Platinum Games really perfected Devil May Cry with this one. The animation is exceptional, the combat is addictive and the plot is insane, but in a way that makes me treasure every batsh*t crazy cutscene. I really thought I would hate Bayonetta, but I love her and her eponymous game. If you haven’t played it, you’re wrong and bad. Now go ahead and yell at me for saying that.

I love Twin Peaks. I love that this game channels Twin Peaks. I love that this game was weird and scary and engaging and gave us pause to consider if it was intentionally “bad” or if it was some meta-joke we didn’t understand. Seems it was meant to look and play like something from a previous console cycle, but I don’t care, because some of my happiest moments in gaming this year were spent with Deadly Premonition
In retrospect, I liked this game more than I liked Assassin’s Creed 2, which I loved. I’m almost afraid to say I want the next chapter in this awesome story immediately, because I fear anything rushed to market, but I want it now. Atheist assassins, re-imagined history (with some learnin’ thrown in), slick parkour … writing about it is just causing me to fiend for it even more.

It’s rare that DLC outshines the game that came in the box, but Knoxx certainly does. Sure, the lack of fast travel was frustrating, but Knoxx makes up for it with humor, charm and a fresh supply of awesome guns for my arsenal. I love you, General Knoxx, and I cannot keep our love a secret any longer, except all year when I wouldn’t shut up about your excellent DLC. I made Adam Sessler sit at my desk and listen to all of your audio tapes. True story.

As far as pinball games go, Pinball FX 2 doesn’t quite proffer the pinball perfection that last year’s Williams Collection did, but it is incredibly addicting and lets you play on inventive tables that are too complex to exist in the real world. The new Marvel tables and promise of future ones really seal the deal in making this a must-buy for pinball fans.
