Rockstar has declined to submit Red Dead Redemption for a BAFTA Video Game Award. The BAFTA awards, or British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards, are considerably more classy than some video game award shows. The game could easily be considered for Best Game, Gameplay, Story and Artistic Achievement. Red Dead Redemption was a contender for G4's Game of the Year.
CVG contacted a BAFTA spokesperson who told them Red Dead Redemption was "eligible for the awards" but Rockstar "decided not to put the game forward for consideration." The BAFTA Video Game Awards will take place on March 16th.
It's not clear why Rockstar declined to submit their name for the running other than they feel bad for winning so many awards already. Or maybe they didn't want to pay the entry fee, but something tells me they can afford it. Why do you think they didn't enter?

Good question. Why do YOU think they didn't enter?

Because winning an award like a BAFTA could be viewed as a death sentence. Kinda like the Madden curse. Taking it to the next level like that would put an enormous (if only perceived) amount of pressure on Rockstar to consistently produce the same quality of games. Not that Rockstar doesn't have it in them, but I'd be willing to bet that they are content to let the gamers (and their wallets) give them all the praise they need.

I can't see why a western couldn't win a Bafta, the same way European costume dramas often wins Oscars.
And Rockstar has very British roots, although the parent company is based in NYC. And lets face it, RDD is basically GTA with horses, and GTA is the work of Rockstar North.

They probably don't need any more advertising to sell more copies of the game. I'm more curious how many didn't buy it than did.

owell, whatever hapens, everything will be ok

Entry fee? That's ridiculous. If I had made an incredible game like they did, I wouldn't pay any fees for recognition. Gamers say they love it, and that probably means more to them than some award they had to purchase. Good for them.

I can't wait to play this game.
Knives39
well this is kinda strange especially since rock star laid off rock star San Diego earlier this year

They probably feel the game speaks for itself and doesn't need an award. People already know how great the game is.

2 reasons:
1) RDR is the exact opposite of everything british
2) When you're a R* you do what you want and dont need a reason

Only a "Rock Star" Would turn down an award ceremony. (Hence the name) I feel u R* Do whatever u want... Cant wait for LA. Noire!

Maybe because they dont wanna go out there to accept the awards they will win.

Declining it would get them more publicity than if they entered and won. What's another award for them? One more blurb on the back of a box. There wouldn't be any articles about them if they had entered the game into the awards.
poopdog_ofdefeat
Red Dead Redemption is the pure embodiment of America and an award from Britain would only taint its glory.

Balls dude, they know they have them big and they are humble.
Crankr
Cowboys and Dr. Who don't mix.
