The Videogame Deathmatch ballots have been counted, you, the readers, have spoken, and, after over half a million votes, your choice for the best game of 2010 is…StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty!
In the end, Blizzard’s strategy masterpiece managed to out maneuver Mass Effect 2, BioWare’s brilliant RPG and X-Play’s pick for Game of the Year, in a sci-fi-themed battle of epic proportions (at least as far as random video game popularity contests go). The final tally had SC2 on top with 55 percent of the vote. Close, eh?
StarCraft 2 managed to best some pretty formidable foes on its path to victory. Halo: Reach, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Limbo, and Deathspank all found themselves no match for SC2’s legions of loyal and dedicated fans.

I'm not a PC gamer so I can't comment on SCII, but I will say that I'm glad Mass Effect 2 made it to the finals. I've been playing video games since I first got my little hands on an Atari 2600 back in 1982, and I can honestly say that Mass Effect 2 is, at least for me, the closest game developers have come to achieving video game perfection.

There has always been a massive case of 12 Year Olds on Internet Syndrome on this site, but video game death match brought out the worst of it.

to everyone that wanted mass effect 2 to win think about it this way it would of beat every other game on that list. the main reason starcraft 2 won is because its a really good multiplayer game with a sht load of people that play it. mass effect 2 did this good and its a singal player game. you guys should be proud of that. you know how good of a game it was so just be fine with the fact that it came in second to the most played multiplayer game in the world. maybe next year mass effect 3 can win unless blizzard has to kick us in the balls again with one of there online multiplayer games. also congrats to all starcraft fans may you be virgins forever(completely joking), but seriously congrats

If Starcraft 2 was half as good as all you fanboys say it is it would have won GOTY on Joystick, on IGN and on X-Play....

i honestly think this means nothing neither starcraft 2 or ME2 is better SC has its better in strategy, gameplay, and other stuff while ME2 is good with guns awesome multiplayer and both good graphics so if you think the g4 deathmatch determines the BEST game ever well your wrong games get their tags on their certain element that they are good so i would say they both won :).

There are apparently more mindless sheep on this site then previously assessed. Not that SC 2.0 (SC1 with better graphics) was a bad game, just not game of the year quality. 10 years to make and no real innovation to speak of? Placating to the masses of Korean E-Spots. Mass Effect 2 was Epic and sophisticated. SC2 was, at best, entertaining.

To everyone whining about Mass Effect 2 losing, STOP. Yes, I wanted ME2 to win, but it didn't. Deal with it. There's no shame in losing as long as you put up a fight, which is what we, the ME2 fans, did. We fought for our game, but it came up short in the end. Let the Starcraft 2 fans have their moment. They've certainly waited long enough for it. And to those of you saying either one is the "best game ever made", don't. You haven't played every game ever made, so you can't compare ME2 or SC2 to every game ever made.
