The Videogame Deathmatch ballots have been counted, you, the readers, have spoken, and, after over half a million votes, your choice for the best game of 2010 is…StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty!
In the end, Blizzard’s strategy masterpiece managed to out maneuver Mass Effect 2, BioWare’s brilliant RPG and X-Play’s pick for Game of the Year, in a sci-fi-themed battle of epic proportions (at least as far as random video game popularity contests go). The final tally had SC2 on top with 55 percent of the vote. Close, eh?
StarCraft 2 managed to best some pretty formidable foes on its path to victory. Halo: Reach, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Limbo, and Deathspank all found themselves no match for SC2’s legions of loyal and dedicated fans.

Both were awesome games, but completely different games and until mass effect becomes a national sport i figured SC2 would win, even though i did vote for ME2

Was a pretty obvious outcome... ME 2 is a solid game but lacks the community aswell as the replay-ability. In the end the game that changed not only the entire RTS industry but all of e-sports as we know it was obviously going to win.

what happened has happened, you can't build a time machine to take back revenge on sc2 (unless ur albert einstein) and besides me2 was great but sc2 was better (no offense but i didnt play me2 yet but i know its great too) sooo....GG :D

People really need to chill out with this competition. Both games are amazing in their own rights. Can't we just be happy that they were both recognized on G4?
Starcraft II wins Deathmatch, and Mass Effect II wins GOTY
To be fairly honest, and I know I'm going to get so much hate for this, I'm glad we saw these two games in the finals and not games like Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Halo Reach, or Red Dead Redemption. It's so easy to look at newer games and vote on them because they are the most recently released. Also, shooters tend to be more popular, so it's easy to just choose one of them as GOTY.
Both Mass Effect II and Starcraft II are not First Person Shooters, while Mass Effect certainly implements shooter gameplay and Starcraft with mods, and both of them have been out for at least five months now. It's nice to see "older", and I use the term older as released before September, games still receive recognition such as this, because they are truly great games that leave such an impact in the long run.

Doesn't matter if you won G4's goty, most of the people that work at G4 are console gamers (surprise!). You guys lost to RDR in the VGA's. End of story.

Sc2 = great multiplayer, great gameplay..........HORRIBLE story, HORRIBLE campaign traversal
Mass Effect 2 = great story, innovated content (saved games carry on from one to the other), complex campaign traversal, coherent, graphically stellar, fun repeatable gameplay, good dialogue, good depth, great dlc.......
I cannot pick one thing from Mass effect 2 that did not feel like effort and care was put into it.......Sc2 on the other hand had one of the most convoluted and ridiculous stories ever conceived in gaming history.....
Clearly the blizz fanbois made this win possible, from their blind devotion to an atrocious MMO, to their fanaticism of a SC2 story that bastardizes the original.....

Both AWESOME games that leave impressions on you that will not be forgotten. Glad to have been able to vote this year and glad that it came down to these 2 and no others. Now I'm gonna go play some ME2 and SC2!

I could not pick i have loved sc for the last ten years but mass is so good i picked mass2 in the end it is part 2 scwings is part one of a 3 part sc2 a graet part but not all of two

while i do agree with most people, SC2 is a phenomenal game, i still love ME2. And well, ME2 won game of 2010. Im still enjoying SC2. And for those who enjoy SC2, can you imagine Blizzard remaking one of the greatest RTS, CNC. After EA places their hands on it, it just went downhill. Blizzard should buy it, rebuild it and bring back the awesome RTS. Or atleast Blizzard make my dream come true, make a new Warcraft.

I knew this was going to happen. Starcraft 2 has a much larger fan base and sure was expected to win. Mass Effect 2 is still the GotY from a gameplay point of view...Starcraft 2 is an excellent game but Mass Effects story is the best story to ever exist in a video game.
