The Videogame Deathmatch ballots have been counted, you, the readers, have spoken, and, after over half a million votes, your choice for the best game of 2010 is…StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty!
In the end, Blizzard’s strategy masterpiece managed to out maneuver Mass Effect 2, BioWare’s brilliant RPG and X-Play’s pick for Game of the Year, in a sci-fi-themed battle of epic proportions (at least as far as random video game popularity contests go). The final tally had SC2 on top with 55 percent of the vote. Close, eh?
StarCraft 2 managed to best some pretty formidable foes on its path to victory. Halo: Reach, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Limbo, and Deathspank all found themselves no match for SC2’s legions of loyal and dedicated fans.

I don't really like this whole pitting two totally different game generes against eachother. It's kinda like Fruit Deathmatch: Apples vs Oranges. FOIGHT! But I haven't played ME2 yet, so grats to SC2.

I'm actually surprised that SC2 won, don't get me wrong I'm happy and love the game. But I was under the impression that only console-tards came to this site.

Well, I knew this would happen haha. Congrats SC II fans everywhere, including Husky.
For everyone saying that Mass Effect 2 has inferior gameplay and a weak story, you probably haven't played it. Riveting story, memorable charaters, and a stunning conclusion.
Based on my experiences with any RTS, they've all been rinse and repeat to me.
Again, congats Blizzard. Sorry you lost out on X-play's game of the year though, maybe in 2021 you guys will win it.

Yeah both games are amazing I personally dont own ME2 though I probably should lol. In my opinion the better game won and if it took Husky or TL.net or any other SC2 site to win it then thats fair game. Its just how the community works around SC2

I voted for Mass Effect 2, but Star Craft 2 is also a super awesome game! I played the first one waaayyy back in the day, and I think that's what tipped the scales in this super close match, SC's long history with it's fans! So congratz to Star Craft and congratz to Mass Effect for winning Game of the Year!! ^__^

well i tried mass effect 2 for the pc a while back, And got totally bored 1/2 threw the campaign.
I also played sc2, and got bored threw the campaign.
However im not really a single player guy, i like multiplayer, where it matters most.
And sc2 sure delivers on that. I got the game since release and i have yet to become bored of sc2. Playing in multiplayer and taking brakes to play some of the really cool custom games always keeps things fresh, anybody played maps like starbattle,Sotis,Zealot frenzy? just frikken awesome ..

An open letter from Starcraft fans to ME2 fans
Dear ME2 fans,
First of all, congratulations on GOTY and making it to the finals. We recognize that ME2 is an excellent game that is the best in it's genre and delivers an awesome story with great character development, with terrific gameplay to boot.
We want to clear some things up though. We don't really care if our game is lacking in story, it's an RTS game. Would say you hate playing Chess because the story sucks? We get that we have a single player mode that is pretty fun with a pretty mediocre story, but we play Starcraft for the multiplayer gameplay.
Secondly, we're not all WoW players, Husky followers, or Blizzard fanboys. We don't follow anyone blindly, we like blizzard because they made a game we enjoy. We like Husky because he likes Starcraft, not the other way around.
We don't want you to think that we think Starcraft is a better game, we just voted for the game because it aligns with what we want in a game: a fun, competitive, deep game that feels good to play (both mechanically and intellectually) with a strong community and esports scene.

You can't really complain about a community mobilizing, to vote for their favorite game. Cause that's what this was a popularity contest, that is what anything fan voted equates to.
So for one everyone needs to stop raging that the more popular game won, cause obviously that was going to happen. And secondly everyone comparing sc2 to ME2 as a game in general should stop because you really can't compare an rts, to a rpg fps type deal like me2. Two totally different games, no S word people are going to hate oen and like the other.
<3 both games but sc2 is by far the bigger community.

For anyone complaining about Husky's fans voting for SC2, I don't see how that skews the results. Fans of a game voting for a game in a GOTY Death Match style contest does not skew the results in anyway. There were many Mass Effect 2 sites encouraging people to vote on here as well.

Two extremely great games. SC2 had the edge
being a PC game though & all votes being taken via... a PC.
If there was a voting system advertised on the consoles we
may have seen the bias turn the other way...
But like I said... "two extremely great games."
