At the VGA awards moments ago, Bethesda's Todd Howard announced and dated the newest Elder Scrolls game. Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim will be available on November 11, 2011.
We'll fill in the specific details as we get them, but until then, here's a little background on Skyrim. It's the the northernmost province of Tamriel, and home to the Falmer, or snow elves, a race that has seemingly died out, leaving behind only some hypotheses about their fate. Perhaps they inter-married with other races and the bloodline has been diluted enough to be gone... or perhaps there is another, more interesting explanation?
Maybe, just maybe, we'll find out in November!

Honestly, I'm a little bummed that I will have to wait until November. That being said, at least it will make the "coming of the snow" more bearable. :)

I can't wait, i hope it keeps the open gameplay oblivion had and doesn't make big compromises.
Oblivion was as close to the perfect game you can get i hope they dont stray TO FAR from that model.
I really hope modding tools are released at some point but i have a bad feeling that they won't. Its becoming a trend, thanks to consoles ;(
I hope that the world spaces are a bit larger, town interiors were a bit cramped in oblivion. and even though the exteriors were huge there's plenty of room to go bigger. (console limitations right here)
Overhaul the stealth system, petty thieving in oblivion was useless, by the time you could pickpocket and make any money from it you were already invulnerable/invisible to the point of overkill.
Make the player choose how he/she is gonna build the character, no 100% skills in everything.
Let the player go higher in stats at the cost of other stats, e.g. i want to build a hulk character with 150 str at the cost of everything else :) or a super mage with 150 intelligence or an extremely effective stealth character and everything in between.
I have my hopes up but the fact it is being developed with xbox360,ps3 in mind means its already going to be limited technically.
Im sure oblivion wasn't pushing the 360 to its limit but im sure there wasn't a huge gap left.
I hope the graphics engine doesn't hold back. Lets see some improved models and especially some complex weather effects.
Something on par with crysis visual quality would be nice but unlikely.
Include companions from the start that can grow along with the player. Evevn some sort of squad management would be cool!
This won't meet the 2011 release date, LATE 2012 is more realistic, chances are early 2012 we will be playing this.

Wait....I thought that he Nords originated from Skyrim. It says in all of the books and manuals that I have read, that the Nords were from Skyrim, It even says in the manual that comes with the game Oblivion, and in the game Oblivion when you choose your race, that the Nords are from Skyrim, WTF???

OMFG. I JUST BOUGHT OBLIVION GOTY ON PS3 A FEW MONTHS AGO (moron? yes) AND IT IS AWESOME (except for shivering isles. my mind got messed up before i even reached the 1st town b4 the gatekeeper)

If only G4 had their facts straight no one metions the snow elfs they were just the original founders of skyrim but the main inhabitants are The Nords which are the worst characters in oblivion (sorry if u like them i don't) but the game looks cool especially with the draons being incorperated

Fallout MMO is coming. Elder Scrolls MMO? The leveling doesn't really lend itself to the MMO space...Could you see 400 people jumping off of cliffs with the vain hope of leveling? I can't see it. Has there been talk of an ES MMO because I just can't see it happening.
THe only reason why i'm stoked on this is because it means that fallout 4 *unannounced* will have a new engine finally.

Best news i've heard all year.
Actually one part I caught of the VGA's, had my heart thumping. Mostly because of the fear of a Fallout or ElderScrolls mmo announcement, first impressions are that it's a single player though.
Not that an mmo wouldn't be good, but i'd just preffer the fully fleshed out story/gameplay of a Single player ES, when knowing first hand what mmo's generally offer, just don't think a strictly mmo version would do the series justice.
