Flower developer thatgamecompany has released the first trailer for its latest downloadable PlayStation 3 title, Journey, in which players will embark on an epic adventure across a vast and stunning desert landscape. The team at thatgamecompany has made a name for itself by providing gamers with seemingly simple yet emotionally complex experiences, and this tradition seems well in tact in the developer’s latest effort, as evidenced by the game’s haunting and awe-inspiring trailer.
Journey is designed to be both a single-player and multiplayer experience, but, as studio lead Jenova Chen has explained on a number of occasions, the hope is that people will want to work together and connect on a much deeper level than they would in a typical multiplayer experience. While this is certainly a tall order given the nature of multiplayer gaming these days, the game’s design and the type of gamer the developer’s titles attract make it very likely Chen and his team’s wishes will be realized. At least, I sincerely hope they are, because it could create one of the most unique gaming experiences to come along in a long time.
President and co-founder of thatgamecompany, Kellee Santiago, posted a couple new Journey screenshots over at the PlayStation Blog that really showcase the game’s visual style and stunning setting.
