X-Play Game Of The Year 2010 Nominees Announced

We've spent the last 12 months playing every major game released, and today, we're ready to reveal the nominees for 2010's Game of the Year. These are the best video games of 2010 and we're giving out 21 awards for great games this year, including Best Shooter, Most Original Game, Best RPG, Best Sports Game, Best Multiplayer and of course the coveted Game of the Year!

The winners will be revealed in a special one-hour X-Play special to be broadcast on G4 on Tuesday, December 14 at 6PM, so make sure to mark your calendar.

GOTY list is just..... stupid. That's the only nice word all I could think of right now. GOW3 not nominated? Huh? Well, it's not a big surprise anymore. I still remember the Fable debacle.

A shame I didn't see Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep on the best handheld list, but I guess going up against Peace Walker and Persona 3 Portable, it probably would get beaten anyway. Though in the RPG department, P3P is a bit longer than BBS(though I have 120 hours into BBS in order to get the secret ending. Thats what I get for playing on normal!), and I guess P3P is a bit more engaging.

Though while I can accept the fact that KH BBS isn't on the list, I'm surprised Valkyria Chronicles 2 didn't make it. I have yet to play it, so I'm not really in a position to comment on it, but I assumed it was well recieved. Course, I haven't really read any reviews on the game, so again, can't really comment on it.

This Game of the Year list is lame. How can the two best games not be on it? Those games are God of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5. I'm not interested in what this site thinks if this is your idea of a list for Game of the Year.

ME2 was amazing in every way, shape, and form. fallout new vegas was great, but ultimately the story was actually weak. there were individual great quest story lines, such as the compainion's personal quests, and the Black mountain quest. Red dead was a refreshing change from the norm, but suffered from a flawed multyplayer and poor replay value on the singleplayer (excluding DLC). Black ops is great, except that (for me) all the guns kinda feel like toys, and the community remains terrible as ever. Minecraft deserves that most original game 100%. its only in alpha testing and sold more that 700 thousand copys, let alone the number of ppl that play if for free. Best handheld should have been Pokemon Heartgold, tho i hated the art style. other games i cannot comment on, because these are the games i have played this year.

Before you all start hating out of retarded fan boyish ignorance, I played all these games and found Mass Effect 2 to be the only one worthy of being GOTY and earning all of those awards since it has gone above and beyond what its predecessor has done. The save system is something that hardly any other game has done, making it innovative. It has an epic soundtrack that crushes even Halo's beautiful music. It has the most mature and clever writing of any game, couple that with excellent voice work. The best DLC i have ever played since Shivering Isles. Lair of the Shadow Broker has so much nostalgia and emotion that it was heart wrenching. Of course it is the best RPG of the year hands down, nothing topples it. Starcraft 2 was the only one that was close behind Mass Effect for GOTY, since it is, well Starcraft. The best darn RTS out there. Red Dead was good, but it got tiresome after a while. Rock Star games have that effect on me, unfortunately. This is by far Rock Star's best game, though.

how the hell is epic mickey game of the year nominee and gow 3 isnt WTF i played both gow 3 is so much better and the gameplay in epic mickey isnt all that fun super mario galaxy 2 would even make more since its gamplay is much better than epic mickey and doesnt have a horrible camara or boring fetch quests.

Yeah it's a pretty crap list. G4 has shown before though they can get bought. Weren't they owned by Gamestop for a while? They pretty much just plugged what ever Game Informer was slinging that month.

How the F is Halo: Reach not at the very least nominated for GOTY? That's just utter f'in' nonsense. Unbelievable. They finally make the perfect Halo game, and what, just because they want to "buck the trend" they have to put better games to the side? I'm sorry, but neither Epic Mickey, nor NBA2K11 deserves to be up there, at least not in comparison to Reach.
