X-Play Game Of The Year 2010 Nominees Announced

We've spent the last 12 months playing every major game released, and today, we're ready to reveal the nominees for 2010's Game of the Year. These are the best video games of 2010 and we're giving out 21 awards for great games this year, including Best Shooter, Most Original Game, Best RPG, Best Sports Game, Best Multiplayer and of course the coveted Game of the Year!

The winners will be revealed in a special one-hour X-Play special to be broadcast on G4 on Tuesday, December 14 at 6PM, so make sure to mark your calendar.

no god of war 3
no fable 3
no black ops
no halo reach
no new vegas

and you put epic mickey and nba 2k11 in there? wow ridiculous!

Plus im sure you already gave it to mass effect 2. of those picks i just hope red dead or brotherhood wins.

also fable 3 isn't nominated at all yet you nominate neir for best RPG? WTF? and Bad company 2 not nominated for best multiplayer? HORRIBLE

Im sorry but Halo Reach may not be the game of the year. But it is a standout phenomenal leap forward in the series that nailed EVERYTHING right in terms of improvements over Halo 3. It deserves a game of the year nod. There is no good reason its not on that list that you couldn't argue against t one of the other games that did make the list. Like I said it may not be everyone's favorite game of the year but its good enough that to not put it on the list is ridiculous.

Hello to all you wonderful people making the comments on this page...I was on the gametrailers site roughly 2 days ago and there was a list of most anticipated games. Now of all these games, mortal kombat was not on it and a beautiful thing happened. All the fansof mortal kombat felt an injustice and everyone in the comments simply typed mortal kombat ftw or something mortal kombat. Now i'm hear to ask that we all simply say something about GOD OF WAR 3 in the comment section because i strongly it's an injustice to not put the game which ended a wonderfully trilogy and wrapped up one megatnicly awesome story as a candidate for game of the year. BEAR IN MIND....i believe Mass Effect 2 should win BUT that doesn't make the injustice any less. PLEASE!!!!! everyone who's a fan of GOD OF WAR....chime in.....seriously g4? u put a sports game in there.

Please tell me this is a joke. Wow X-Play, I thought you were better than this. These nominees are a joke. Why is Assassins Creed Brotherhood nominated for Game of the Year?? You guys gave it a 4/5, how is that game of the year quality? You gave Super Mario Galaxy 2 a 5/5, where's that at? Mario deserves Game of the Year more than Assassins Creed, and NBA 2K11. Here's how that list should go.

Super Mario Galaxy 2
Red Dead Redemption
Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty
Mass Effect 2
Disney's Epic Mickey

This list is alot more reasonable than the one you have, you gave them all a 5/5 and they are all in the 9-10 score range. And let me point out that Mario Galaxy 2 is higher rated than nearly all those games you nominated for game of the year and has gotten perfect scores from nearly all the reviewers out there, including IGN, Gamespot, Gametrailers, and Edge Magazine, and was declared Game of the Year by these reviewers and many others, and you didn't nominate it, not for game of the year, and not even for anything else for that matter. Why X-Play?

You know G4, I'm gonna try to respect your opinions, but when you guys go and nominate an anualized game like Assassin's Creed over God of War 3 or Halo: Reach for Game of the Year I'm baffled and, frankly, just pissed. Adam, you just did a Soapbox about the dangers of annualization! Think about why you nominated who you did. Why not just nominate them again next. And the next. And the next?

I'm kinda bummed that the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World game didn't make their best downloadable game or soundtrack category, but I'm glad it's not me deciding the winners, I wouldn't be able to pick just one.

Best DLC I can't tell you a winner there because I've shared the number one spot with RDR's Undead, Borderlands' Knoxx and Mass Effect 2's Lair of the Shadow Broker. All were freakin' excellent! Best sound design has to go to Starcraft II, the making of showed just how much love and labor those guys went to get the perfect sounds of each race, environment and explosive sfx. Game of the year for me would have to be ME2, and Limbo wins best downloadable game. Both made you sit back and go woah man that was awesome.

I just noticed:
the final 4 games of the video game death match are all here.
Those being Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. The other two being NBA 2K11 and Epic Mickey, and both went out the first round of that. I Still think they should take those two out and put God of War 3 and Super Mario Galaxy 2 in, even though the later also went out round 1. But it did get a 97 on metacritic which is no small feet.

There are some parts where I have no preferences to. ME2's DLC is easily going to win it's category. That Lair of the Shadow broker will COMPLETELY change ME3 as long as you play it in your saved profile.

why does everyone just assume that because certain blockbuster games arent in game of the year or certain categories G4 thinks they're bad? they just didnt want Halo reach, Call of duty, and mass effect spamming the whole list... I personally like the variety...

I don't get why people are getting so upset by NBA 2K11 being nominated for game of the year. It truly is an impressive sports game that deserves recognition for being a great game. Plus with the inclusion of Michael Jordan it captures what the greatest basketball player was really like.

Too many people here think sports are stupid because the stereotypical person who plays, but this generation has really shown what a great sports game can be, and NBA 2K11 ranks among the top of them.

Has GotY always had six spots, as opposed to the rest with five? I'm surprised by the results, but G4 must have bickered about this for so long that any statement by me would seem heedlessly inconsiderate.
I love ME2, but G4 should try to anger as many people as possible, so I say Epic Mickey for GotY.
