A song from Sid Meier's Civilization IV and a song from Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock have been nominated for Grammys. This is the first time songs from a video game's soundtrack have been nominated.
The "hit" song "Baba Yetu" from Civ 4 is nominated for 'Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist.' Composer Christopher Tin, who was nominated for two Grammys this year, credits "Boba Yetu's" success and life outside of the game to Video Games Live. It has been featured in many Video Games Live performances and was included in the PBS special.
Megadeath's song "Sudden Death", a single written for Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, was also nominated. It's up for Best Metal Performance. This is Megadeth's ninth nomination.
The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards air on February 13, 2011 on CBS.

Dude! My choir sang "Baba Yetu" two years ago! That's so cool it's up for a grammy!

Megadeth really doesnt stand a chance in hell of winning. Least Metallica isnt nominated, the award is just handed to them every time they are nominated.

I am a big Megadeth fan but I am also a big fan of Slayer, Lamb of God, Korn, and Iron Maiden. Raise the horns.

I can understand the Civ 4 nomination but not GH. A nomination should only apply to original OST.

This will give video games a little more attention in the field of art forms...and thats always fantastic!

The Grammy's lost what little credibility they had when they nominated Katy Perry's new album to the Album of the Year category. WTF!?! Anyone with half a brain knows that isn't music.

Still not enough to get me to watch the Grammys. Award Shows are horrible, all of them.

Really, out of all the great video game soundtracks they put those two, im ok with civilization but warriors of rock really i mean technically the song belongs to Megadeth so theres no point to it, now lets see other games that have way better soundtracks then these two that should have been mentioned ever since they have come out:
Halo series, Metal Gear series, No more Heroes 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Final Fantasy Series, Damn the list can go on but you guys know where im coming from.

If this had been done years ago I'd say Bloody Tears from Castlevania 2 should have been nominated... Maybe not in the MIDI format of the time of course, but the covers I've heard on youtube tend to be amazing.

Warriors of Rock was nomintaed for a Grammy? Likely the only award it will be nominated for all year.

I never really thought about it before but I guess it would make sense that original scores from video games would be recognized eventually. On the other hand it also surprises me. Just look at how long it took the Grammy's to recognize metal and rap as "legitimate" musical art forms.

That is cool because most songs today suck. At least game music get you into the game. "Que cool theme" alright lets go bring the pain to some baddies.
