A Tomb Raider reboot is coming, people. This morning, Game Informer magazine posted scans of its next cover featuring a bedraggled looking Lara Croft, as well as the promise of tons of details on the game in its January issue. Click the "Read More" tag for a look at the whole cover.
Details, at present, are scant. We know the game will be called Tomb Raider and feature a younger, inexperienced Lara Croft who must "endure both physical and emotional trauma to survive."
We'll let you know more about the new Lara when the details are revealed, but until then, feel free to speculate, or just take a moment to revel in how amazing the new Lara Croft looks. Personally, I'm totally onboard and can't wait until this game is released, based on the image and history of the series alone!

what is really going to change?
she'll look and be younger, and instead of being a strong woman both emotionally and physically she'll be weak and frail just like all other protagonists when a reboot is made, because writers can't come up with a more creative younger version of a story's protagonist,
why can't they have her be like indiana jones where she's just trying to impress her father but he's too busy with his work to give attention to her, granted it would be a "daddy didn't love me" cliche, but that's a lot more original than "i'm young and aggressive, beat me up emotionally and physically so i learn my place!", not to mention it wouldn't be as degrading to a female hero, it would show her ambition and resolve to live up to the expectations of others instead of just making them an arrogant idiot

Are they just going to keep rebooting it until they can capture the magic again?

Reboot? So are they making her boobs smaller or something?

I just pray they dont do to Lara what they did to Samus. The short hair is just the beginning. next thing you know she'll be curled up in a ball in some cave crying for her daddy.

Is it me, or does the new Lara look like a cross between Madison Paige from Heavy Rain and Eleka from Prince of Persia?

As long as I can still swan dive her off a cliff I'll be happy. Had Tomb Raider 2, 3, and Anniversary(by far my favorite just because of the controls). I wouldn't mind a reboot, I'm all for a fresh viewpoint.

This looks like the reboot the franchise needed, as well as deserved. I got high hopes on this one. Just hope whoever's developing it doesn't screw it up.

Reboots are pretty smart when you think about it.
New systems, new generation, new games.
This Lara? It's like I'm 13 years old all over again . . .
Blue_Vortex
As long as it doesn't play like uncharted or gears, and empathizes on actually tomb raiding with environmental puzzles/platforming I think it'll be decent.
No offense to fans of uncharted but that game was just cover and shoot with a few moments of scripted climbing/jumping (well at least the first one, if the second one is any different then perhaps make the reboot more like that). If I have anything positive to say about uncharted I liked the story and graphics, and the first couple parts of the game were fun.

I hope she is the female version of Drake too! Then in two games they meet up for some specatular co-op action!

Ballin, till we fallin off the side of a cliff. Those are memories that strike me as familiar with Lara. WOOT!

If they were smart, whomever owns the Lara Croft rights would pay the cats who made UC2 a BOATLOAD of money to give Lara the same treatment. I personally feel LC is a good property with great name recognition with a loyal fanbase, but what it lacks is the right developer to make her shine again.
This isn't the 90's anymore, times have changed, the game has changed, and other developers have raised the bar (Naughty Dog, for example) on what's possible in this genre.
This is, or has the pedigree to be a Triple A title (again), provided it has the right developers behind it.

Why another reboot? I thought Underworld wasn't that good but that doesn't mean you reboot the whole series again. Just fix the problems. Haven't said that, I do like the battered image and do think this new Lara Croft game looks interesting based on the image alone.
BONERJAM
I'll get excited once I know the gameplay is good.

Another Reboot huh?
imaximus
Well, I like the look.... but hopefully they change her personality too. I could never get into the games because of her character and her looks combined, but mostly her character. I just didn't buy into it.

Bad day at the office?

That's supposed to be Lara Croft? WOW!! that's quite a bit more than just a reboot..more like a total 180. Kinda looks like Hilary swank a little.
JustTheBeginning
I like the idea she can actually get scratched and is not untouchable anymore. This will help the series, but is it too late? I mean Uncharted 3 anyone! Do we really believe Crystal Dynamics (the developer) can go toe to toe with Naughty Dog, who are arguably the best developer in the business and put the old Tomb Raider to shame?

Tomb Raider 1,2,3,4, Last Revelation and Angel of Darkness. (All in the same style, essentially)
Reboot 1: Tomb Raider Legend, Tomb Raider Anniversary and Underworld. All awesome, but underworld didn't sell like they thought. And there were show stopper bugs that needed to be patched before you could beat the game.
I'm not mentioning the top down one that came out on PC and Xbox. That's not really a tomb raider game as it is a arcade game.
Now let's reboot the whole genre. ???
I liked the legend/anniversary/underworld format. If they're trying to turn Lara into Nathan Drake they can stop. Lara's the original.
