The parallel, sci-fi meets history-rich conspiratorial narrative of Assassin’s Creed is one of my all-time favorites, and while I definitely enjoyed Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, and Rome is a stunningly realized setting, the game didn’t push Desmond’s modern-day story forward the way I wished it had, even though the mechanics were clearly in place for it. Still, the game did provide a greater sense of the worldwide reach of the conflicts at play in the series, which is appreciated, and, like any self-respecting Creedie (trademarked), speculating about what setting and time period the franchise will go to next is a constant source of enjoyment.
So we’ve put together a list of five historic settings that we’d love to see for the next Assassin’s Creed game. We limited ourselves to the past for this list, so we might be back soon with our picks for modern day cities too. But we’ll see. For now, power up those Animuses (Animi?), because here we go.

1. 18th Century London
London is one of my favorite cities in the world, so I would love the chance to explore Britain’s capital city circa the 18th century. That would place the story just on the doorstep of the Industrial Revolution, a period of exponential advancements in technology, economics, transportation, politics, and pretty much every facet of society on a world-altering scale. Even before that though, you have the coming together of England and Scotland to form the United Kingdom in 1707, and all of the historical and political implications therein. In addition to providing a compelling backdrop against which to tell yet another historically rich conspiracy tale about the battle between the assassin’s and Templars, the geography and layout of London would fit in perfectly with the parkour-heavy gameplay. Plus two words: chimney sweeps.

2. 1890s Chicago (1893 World Columbian Exposition)/1890s Paris (Exposition Universelle)
I realize that this entry contains two distinct time periods and settings, but I’m lumping them together because they share a common theme: the World’s Fair. I am a huge fan of Erik Larsons’ Devil in the White City, so the idea of being able to freely explore the Chicago World’s Fair (aka the World Columbian Exposition, with the world's first Ferris Wheel. Imagine climbing that thing) and the surrounding city in search of the next piece of Eden is just too amazing for words. Plus, it would bring the AC franchise stateside for the first time (outside of references to American cities in emails hidden in previous games), which would be interesting.
1890s Paris would be equally as compelling because of the presence of the Exposition Universelle, which shared many of the same aesthetics as Chicago’s, and you just know Ubisoft would have a field day coming up with some elaborate hidden treasure stuff surrounding the building of the Eiffel Tower.

3. 1860s Japan (Meiji Restoration)
Similar to the Industrial Revolution in Europe during the 19th century, this period in Japanese history brought with it huge advancements, major governmental shifts, and, most interestingly for the AC universe, the dramatic decline of the samurai, brought on by intense resistance between the samurai and the Japanese army and the government. This could then be used as a way to introduce ninjas into the mix, especially since ninjas had become a sort of secret organization by that time in Japan's history (Order of Assassin's, anyone?) Unprecedented industrialization, strong ideological conflicts, and an incredibly lush and visually distinct environment to explore? Sounds like a winning combination to me.

4. 1500s Constantinople
The establishment and rise of the Ottoman Empire would not only be a stylistically and narratively strong setting, but it would also be a nice way to expand the “empire” themes established in previous games. With a strong central figure like Sultan Suleiman I, who brought about some of the most significant expansions and developments in the empire’s history, and was responsible for sparking its cultural Golden Age (art and AC go hand in hand, as you know), you have that strong historical figure anchor the series is known for. And seeing as a lot of AC developers worked on the Prince of Persia series, giving them the chance to return to a similar setting but with a AC slant would be kind of great.

5. 250–900 AD Central America (Maya Civilization)
Per Stephen “Elaborate Cosmology Fan” Johnson’s suggestion, this is perhaps the most intriguing setting from a narrative perspective because the famous Mayan 2012 disaster prediction plays a major role in the overall AC story, and Desmond’s modern-day adventures just so happens to take place in an increasingly tumultuous 2012 as well, connecting the two time periods more solidly than any previous game. In addition to all of the scientific and religious elements, being able to traverse the elaborate and bafflingly advanced Maya cities would be crazy, especially since you would be able to witness the civilization’s collapse from within, and with an AC-laced spin on it. Plus, there are plenty of temples and underground caves and tunnels to turn into acrobatic playgrounds, which is always welcomed.
Thank you to everyone who has presented their own predictions for the next Assassin's Creed location. There have been some awesome submissions, and I always get a kick out of reading them. So keep them coming!

My votes would definitely be for London or Japan, I think London would probably fit more into what they've done so far, I think it would be cool to incorporate something with Jack the Ripper, whether he's a good or bad guy idk how he would fit into that, however Japan I think would be amazing just because it would look and feel so much different from the first two, samurai instead of knights, ninjas instead of assassins, that would be awesome, I'd be happy with either of those two, but my heart is really rooting for Japan, just to see what they would do with it. Not sure how it would make since on Desmond's family tree either.

Not many things to climb in cowboy land, eh? Ah well. I would love... a jungle setting. Swinging on vines, fighting jungle animals sometimes, climbing on giant trees to get and eagle eye view. I still want to see Russia. But Japan would be really cool. Maybe some American Revolution stuff?

Modern NYC?

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood ended with a clue pointing toward the Free Masons. Probably meaning AC3 will take place in newly colonized New World America.

no guns!!! it would break the game with any multishot weapon. i say go back in the timeline not foreward. but most likely its going to be multible locations in ac3 because of the temples. probably have to figure out have to solve them
PoorPeruvian
it should be in Peru or any part of the Inca Empire

I'm going to have to go with colonial Boston during the American Revolution. The American Revolution is something not hit on too often, let alone Boston. Boston in general is a city we never ever ever see a part of in video games other than like freakin' Tony Hawk, yet is one of the most historical cities in the country. Imagine incorporating the US' early revolutionaries such as Paul Revere or Benjamin Franklin making weapons. You could even throw in the Boston Tea Party etc. I would buy that on the dot at midnight. It would be amazing to see US history in Assassin's Creed.

BRING IT TO MEXICO
Specially to the 1800s when there was the battle for Mexican Independence or La Batalla de Puebla (Cinco de Mayo)or even El Porfiriato
If you don't know mexican history check it out on Wikipedia

@jdeel14 (sorry reply's never work for me..)
Never really thought about it like that, but that is another fine example why stealth really needs to be a larger part of the game.
You are supposed to be an "assassin" after all, but the options to remain hidden in the game aren't as robust or as manditory as they could/should be, still find it odd how someone cannot recognize you if you stand in a small group of 4-5 people >.<
But oh well, i'm sure the game will go a long ways and progress plenty mechanic-wise before the climatic modern ending ever comes into play, I really just hope they dedicate a full length game to just that and nothing else though.

lol wait, so acbrotherhood wasnt ac3? wtf?

Russia during the revolution (early 20th Century). Rasputin as an Assassin, the Czar as templars. The story will write itself, plus it is a time period where most people don't know much about.

Ok here is where I see AC going, we just finished the year 1503 in rome. Columbus just discovered the new world. When you look at the map the codex pages make in AC2 there are faint apples all over it. One around china some where and one in central america, are the two I remember off hand. Being the timeline we are currently at in game and the felling that we are not done with Ezio's story yet, I see Ezio getting on a boat and discovering the new world. The templars could already of arrived ahead of us and the mayan and aztec could be fighting against them to save their apple. Ezio comes in and saves the apple and the spanish never find their "fountian of youth". My 2.

Personally I'd like to see AC3 in a post-apocalyptic New York or set in outer space. LOL JK.
+1 for Constantinople, although Byzanitine Constantinople would be more interesting imo.
I'd personally like to see the next one set in Nazi Germany or Ancient Egypt.

The problem with going too modern with the series is the widespread use of guns. No guard is going to chase an Assassin down when he can just shoot him with a multiple-shot hand pistol. It would make the game mechanics not work.

For me, I like the colonization and conquest of the Americas as the best setting. Imagine a privateer assassin in places like the Mayan cities and Spanish forts, like the ones found right here in Puerto Rico( I live in Puerto Rico). In that time there was great turmoil between the European nations and the story could have a hand in the development of the thirteen colony's that one day would become the United States.

ANYWHERE will be amazing because its an amazing game! :D
Chaos2106
I think we should continue on Ezio's story for half of the game, then (possibly) play as one of his family or even one of the higher ranking assassins in the Assassin's Guild. I know little of AC Brotherhood, seeing as I'm only half way through the game.
Anyway, I think we should keep on going in Europe, maybe to Germany. I saw some Castles while there, maybe one of those could be a Templar hideout?
From the choices, I'd choose any except for the Mayan times. I'd like to see some upgraded hidden blades rather then degrading to stone blades.
assassinsODST
I'd like to see a female assassin ancestor in france. That'd be awesome.

None of these locations make any sense to me. The most badass location for me is, turn of the century, imperial Russia which is why I'm disappointed the comic's already using that setting. It'd be awesome; instead of meeting Leonardo, Machiavelli, or Rodrigo Borgia you'd get to meet Nicholas 2nd, Rasputin, and Lenin :)

London. Hands down.
