The parallel, sci-fi meets history-rich conspiratorial narrative of Assassin’s Creed is one of my all-time favorites, and while I definitely enjoyed Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, and Rome is a stunningly realized setting, the game didn’t push Desmond’s modern-day story forward the way I wished it had, even though the mechanics were clearly in place for it. Still, the game did provide a greater sense of the worldwide reach of the conflicts at play in the series, which is appreciated, and, like any self-respecting Creedie (trademarked), speculating about what setting and time period the franchise will go to next is a constant source of enjoyment.
So we’ve put together a list of five historic settings that we’d love to see for the next Assassin’s Creed game. We limited ourselves to the past for this list, so we might be back soon with our picks for modern day cities too. But we’ll see. For now, power up those Animuses (Animi?), because here we go.

1. 18th Century London
London is one of my favorite cities in the world, so I would love the chance to explore Britain’s capital city circa the 18th century. That would place the story just on the doorstep of the Industrial Revolution, a period of exponential advancements in technology, economics, transportation, politics, and pretty much every facet of society on a world-altering scale. Even before that though, you have the coming together of England and Scotland to form the United Kingdom in 1707, and all of the historical and political implications therein. In addition to providing a compelling backdrop against which to tell yet another historically rich conspiracy tale about the battle between the assassin’s and Templars, the geography and layout of London would fit in perfectly with the parkour-heavy gameplay. Plus two words: chimney sweeps.

2. 1890s Chicago (1893 World Columbian Exposition)/1890s Paris (Exposition Universelle)
I realize that this entry contains two distinct time periods and settings, but I’m lumping them together because they share a common theme: the World’s Fair. I am a huge fan of Erik Larsons’ Devil in the White City, so the idea of being able to freely explore the Chicago World’s Fair (aka the World Columbian Exposition, with the world's first Ferris Wheel. Imagine climbing that thing) and the surrounding city in search of the next piece of Eden is just too amazing for words. Plus, it would bring the AC franchise stateside for the first time (outside of references to American cities in emails hidden in previous games), which would be interesting.
1890s Paris would be equally as compelling because of the presence of the Exposition Universelle, which shared many of the same aesthetics as Chicago’s, and you just know Ubisoft would have a field day coming up with some elaborate hidden treasure stuff surrounding the building of the Eiffel Tower.

3. 1860s Japan (Meiji Restoration)
Similar to the Industrial Revolution in Europe during the 19th century, this period in Japanese history brought with it huge advancements, major governmental shifts, and, most interestingly for the AC universe, the dramatic decline of the samurai, brought on by intense resistance between the samurai and the Japanese army and the government. This could then be used as a way to introduce ninjas into the mix, especially since ninjas had become a sort of secret organization by that time in Japan's history (Order of Assassin's, anyone?) Unprecedented industrialization, strong ideological conflicts, and an incredibly lush and visually distinct environment to explore? Sounds like a winning combination to me.

4. 1500s Constantinople
The establishment and rise of the Ottoman Empire would not only be a stylistically and narratively strong setting, but it would also be a nice way to expand the “empire” themes established in previous games. With a strong central figure like Sultan Suleiman I, who brought about some of the most significant expansions and developments in the empire’s history, and was responsible for sparking its cultural Golden Age (art and AC go hand in hand, as you know), you have that strong historical figure anchor the series is known for. And seeing as a lot of AC developers worked on the Prince of Persia series, giving them the chance to return to a similar setting but with a AC slant would be kind of great.

5. 250–900 AD Central America (Maya Civilization)
Per Stephen “Elaborate Cosmology Fan” Johnson’s suggestion, this is perhaps the most intriguing setting from a narrative perspective because the famous Mayan 2012 disaster prediction plays a major role in the overall AC story, and Desmond’s modern-day adventures just so happens to take place in an increasingly tumultuous 2012 as well, connecting the two time periods more solidly than any previous game. In addition to all of the scientific and religious elements, being able to traverse the elaborate and bafflingly advanced Maya cities would be crazy, especially since you would be able to witness the civilization’s collapse from within, and with an AC-laced spin on it. Plus, there are plenty of temples and underground caves and tunnels to turn into acrobatic playgrounds, which is always welcomed.
Thank you to everyone who has presented their own predictions for the next Assassin's Creed location. There have been some awesome submissions, and I always get a kick out of reading them. So keep them coming!

I think it would be good to have an assassin's creed game set in England around the civil war. Maybe either cromwell or george I could be a templar.

Well really when we want to pick a location for AC 3 we gotta look at some facts.
1- The Miles family tree
2- The journey through history
3- Hints at the end of Brotherhood
4- Whats wrong with Russia
1- Desmond has a pretty mixed family
Altair is Half Arabic and Half Christian
Altair's kids are 1/4 arabic 1/4 Christian 1/2 British
Ezio is part Arabic, part christan, which I should point out I mean Europe, part British, and mostly Italian dating back to the birth of the Auditore name. This bloodline allows assassin's creed to have protaginists who are natives of anywhere because we could have a descendant of Altair who is just a distant cousin of Ezio, but to perfect that idea we'd need to consider some very confusing science.
2- The AC series takes us chronologically through time periods previously ignored in videogames. Meaning the next game is after 1507 and COD fans will hate the lack of WW2 and Vietnam. We also see time periods of serious violence and corruption
3- "The Phygiran Cap (sp) and Masonic eye only come together in one place" were Shaun's words more or less at Brotherhood's end. My source may not be accurate but that means French Revolution.
4- Why no Russia? Well the Russian Assassin loved in these comics I wish I read is not related to Desmond, but instead to Daniel Cross. AC is a story is of Desmond and friends hunting down the apple and now the temples to save the world from a abstergo and a solar flare. Meaning Daniel will have to settle with a Comic Book monopoly, The console is Desmond's turf

Ubisoft should make an AC game where Altair goes to Constantinople during the Fourth Crusade, after all, he did swear that he would help out should a similar war break out.

So for sure there is going to be another Assassins Creed? What is it going to be called? When is it going to be released? I dont want to spoil it for anyone but why the hell did they have to end the game the way they did? Anyone who finished the game knows what im talking about.

The japanese one would be great but so would london. Hmmm
AssassinKiller78
ANCIENT EGYPT!! Would love to see an assassin going through Alexandria, go up the nile to Giza and the other ancient tombs and monuments from then.
NightHawk20
I think London would be an awesome choice. They wouldn't run out of buildings to climb THERE.
theoriginalbandit
mayan history would be insane to see kinda like traveling back in time to see what was the disaster that happened in the past!!! i love it!
neumab
american revolution america would be awesome
noporcru623
id like for it to be ancient greek setting during the trojan war maybe
EternalStudent
I would love France during the revolution! The political climate would be great fun to play with and the rustic atmosphere, which I find to be a significant part of the charm of truly stepping back in time, would still be there.
Of course, London would be fun as well, for the all the reasons Adam mentioned. It would be interesting to see what "toys" they decide to bring into the game during that era.
But I would really love to see Constantinople!!! The Ottoman Empire is a fantastic era that some franchise really needs to take advantage of! It would be more than "...kind of great.", it could be ridiculously awesome!! With all that was discovered during that time the possibilities are quite vast...
Japan could be cool, and ninjas would be an easy avenue for AC, but that's why it's on the bottom of my list. Japan has been used in so many games I've lost track; however, AC's true and honest take on the city and inactions, I have no doubt, would be the best thing thus far, by far.
What can I say...? I'm a fanatic and look forward to 3 wherever they choose!
JKING2012
Im surprised nobody suggested NYC

Shouldn't it be safe to assume that they would focus solely on Desmond this time around? What about his parents? On the other hand, if they continue the ancestor trend, I'll put my vote in for maybe Revolutionary war era in the colonies. Fighting alongside militia, playing a part in the tea party, eavesdropping on the deliberation of the constitution. That could be cool. I just keep wondering how the addition of guns (for everyone) may change the game.

Those locations sound great. I'm especially a fan of Japan (it would be cool if they could do something with that but not really expecting it.)
I think adding some environment kills would be kinda cool ie. the guillotine mentoined by Mykel.
Another location that might be cool is New Eden :P
LoneLeo
3, 4, and 5 are completely stupid. i think they should do some kind of pre american life like maybe the revolution or civil war era. or maybe even better nazi germany where hitler is a templar and he's gone crazy with power kinda like ceasra borgia in brotherhood
Halbard
1, 2, and 3 would be my choices. London and Japan especially. But I wish there was an equally cool era and location where Nikola Tesla would be your Di Vinci. That just seems to work.
DragonRider6
Constantinople would be cool because the city was constantly being attack even after the eastern empire had fallen.
Japan would be cool if there was ninjas :P
About 1800s in London. 1800 Austria would be more interesting. The Congress of Vienna and the Concert of Europe put down a lot of revolution of surrounding countries. This could easily be twisted to Templars crushing rebellions and building them up under their rule to search for artifacts.
DiversityHire
The Maya Civilization would be interesting.
FattyMcgee89
I have to agree with jdeel14 since the French revolution would be sweet plus it would fit into the plot well. Since during the revolution were tons of problems with the church during that prior
kingcole225
I have always wanted AC Brotherhood to be in Japan. It would be awesome to climb to buildings in Edo, Nara, or Kyoto. God I love Japan. It could make sense too because of the (AC 1 SPOILERS) reference to Japan in one of the sign subject 16 left for you to see with the eagle vision at the end of AC1. (END SPOILERS)
