In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Inception director Christopher Nolan has confirmed he's working on an Inception video game. When last we heard, Nolan was considering the project, and it seems he's decided on "yes."
“I always imagined Inception to be a world where a lot of other stories could take place,” Nolan told EW. “At the moment, the only direction we’re channeling that is by developing a videogame set in the world.”
Other details on the project are scant. Nolan said he's working with a team of collaborators, and that it is a "longer-term proposition."
Nolan went on to say that he hasn't given a lot of thought to an Inception sequel, but it's not something he's saying "no" to.
Generally, games based on movies are terrible, but that might have more to do with their position as marketing for films as opposed to art works in their own right. Inception: The Game might be the exception that proves the rule.
What do you guys think: Is Inception good fodder for a video game?

The world of Inception is perfect for videogames. And it sounds like it will have a new story set in the same world, not a retelling of the story from the movie. Hope it's good.

As long as Nolan is working on it closely (executive producer?) it'll be great. He makes high quality work. I doubt he'd let anyone take something he created and is one of his most critically and commercially successful projects and have them ruin it. On the flip side, James Cameron did have a part in making the Avatar game and it wasn't anything special. I have high hopes though.

INCEPTION MMO!!!!

The only way this game would not prove the "all movie games suck" notion is if the plot doesn't have ANYTHING to do with the movie itself. Doing so constrains the plot and the entire game itself to conform to everything that happened in the motion picture, making it predictable and killing any creativity that the developers would otherwise be able to play with. Now, just to get this out of the way, yes I have watched Inception in theaters, twice actually because I loved it so much the first time I payed $9.50 to see it on the big screen because I couldn't wait until the DVD came out to see it again.
What needs to happen is that the game needs to be set in either a prequel or sequel time frame, the former being my personal suggestion. Tell the story of HOW Cobb became known as the most skilled extractor, I think there's plenty of story element to be played with their. If anything it's a good excuse to start the player character with no skill and have him increasingly get better as the game character himself gets better and makes a name for himself. This game also screams to have a Fallout GECK-like add on giving players the freedom to create their own dream worlds and share them with their friends (if you don't know what the Fallout series GECK tool is, google it). All in all, if done properly, this game could be as phenomenal as the movie it's based on.

as long as they don't call it Inception: The Game

A Inception Game would be awesome! but Plz Mr. Nolan get real developers to make it! not the Iron Man movie game developers, G.I. Joe, etc

Ill tell you this, if the words 'The Game' are in the title then there is going to be a very upset fanboy!

I think it would be a good idea only if Nolan got behind the project and contributed his ideas hopefully when the game comes out there will be no mulitplayer because I can see no way of that working

YES! That would be AMAZING!!!! If they do it right of course....

Inception FTW!

I believe that with Christopher Nolan as an aid with the storyline that's all I could hope for. Although I'm not super excited I am interested to see how this turns out. Maybe they could break the mold (Highly Unlikely), but hey Batman Arkham Asylum broke out of the hero mold and topped that so far. And yes I am stoaked to get Inception in 6 days!!

Well I am not sure how I feel about this yet. All I know is that I am excited to pick up Inception in 6 days.

A movie game that comes out long after the movie? Could be some hope for this one, unless there is an Inception 2 in line with this game's release :(

If they decide to put ": The Game" in the title, get ready for disappointment.
There's absolutely no way that the amount of effort put into the movie could vastly outweigh the amount of effort put into the game, much less, the title of the game, and have the approval of the fans and critics...
With that said, would this be the one game Roger Ebert would consider spending time with???

Inception as a good video game, in my dreams.

I think it could be pretty cool if they made it so you create a character and select their role (architect, dreamer, etc) and then you do different missions that are carried out in the same style as the Hitman games - where you are given the objective and it's up to you to figure out how to do it. Add in some zero-gravity fighting on occasion and you're gold :)

It would be cool if they somehow incorporated the different roles in the movies. Like the architect could somehow change the dream, the dreamer can use their sub-conscience as decoys, etc. Especially considering how much the goal in the movie was centered on the teamwork involved, I think it could work. Not necessarily full blown RPG elements, but using the different areas of specialties from the movie to go about the story in different way would be tight to see.

I'm kind of afraid to see what it could become (in a bad way). However I think it could be a very good and awesome game if put in the right production company's hands such as Bioware or Ubisoft to name a couple.

as long as the game isn't based completely on the movie i think it has a shot for being a great game. the ability to travel into another's dream may have come from Psychonauts, but i think this game could pull off the realism of the concept of entering the dream world of another quite well. I think the story should be about a student of Leo's from the first movie who also does corporate heist jobs and has a moral dilemma about it. Either that or you should have consequences for what jobs you do or don't take in your profession in the game.
