Microsoft announced today that over 2.5 million Kinects have been sold worldwide since the motion sensing camera launched earlier this month.
“We are thrilled about the consumer response to Kinect, and are working hard with our retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments of Kinect to restock shelves as fast as possible to keep up with demand,” Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business president Don Mattrick said in statement to the press. “With sales already exceeding two and a half million units in just 25 days, we are on pace to reach our forecast of 5 million units sold to consumers this holiday.”
As of November 15, 10 days after launch, 1 million Kinects had been sold, and with sales nearly doubling over the past two weeks, (thanks in large part to Black Friday, no doubt), it’s clear that Microsoft has a bit of a hit on its hands, even if the game lineup leaves a lot to be desired at this point. And seeing as there are still plenty of holiday shopping days left, I predict at least another 1.5 million units are sold by year's end. (1,398,944 will be Stephen "Bathes in Kinects" Johnson, but still.)
How many of the 2.5 million Kinects do you own?
