Mark "Marky Mark" Wahlberg has confirmed that he will be playing Nathan Drake in the upcoming movie based on PS3 video game Uncharted. The movie, being headed by Three Kings director David O. Russel, will definitely star Wahlberg, but it may have some other big names as well.
Speaking to MTV, Wahlberg said: "I'm obviously in whatever David wants to do but the idea of it is so off the charts: De Niro being my father, Pesci being my uncle. It's not going to be the watered-down version, that's for sure."
Both Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci have been approached about playing members of Drake's family, although, in Hollywood terms, that doesn't mean too much.
While it's nice that that quality actors and directors are potentially attached to an Uncharted movie, and even higher quality actors are considering starring, I'm not overly excited, because if this movie ever actually gets made, it will suck. All movies based on video games suck. They have always sucked. No matter how cool they sound before they're made, they suck. SUCK!

If they would stop using big name actors for adapted movies, I would say Nolan North. I mean the voice acting and motion acting, the guy is practically Nathan Drake. But sadly hollywood doesn't work like that....
I don't like the Mark Wahlberg idea, because I don't think he can pull off sarcastic, wit, or general smart ass Nathan Drake style....
I wish they would reserve A-list actors for original movie titles and use actors that would fit the characters more for adapted movies....

This is amazing news. David O. Russel, an amazing director, and Mark Wahlberg, an amazing actor, they'll make this movie the way it needs to be made.
To all of you complaining, go watch Three Kings and I Heart Huckabees. Three Kings is, in the simplest description, a treasure hunting movie. In I Heart Huckabees Wahlberg's character is hilarious.
There is not a single doubt in my mind that this is going to turn out well.

Who in the hell is Nathan's Father and Uncle? Is this some kind of a joke, because this is sounding to me like Uncharted: The missing Treasure of the Goodfellas, starring Robert Deniro, Joe Pesci, and wait for it... Mark Wahlberg. I am really wondering what the storyline of this film will be.

here's my idea, have either Blur Studios or Digic Pictures do a complete 100% CGI movie and keep the voice actors from the game.

Mark Wahlberg playing Nathan Drake makes more since than Keanu Reeves playing Spike in the Cowboy Bebop live action movie.
Either way, both movies will more than likely be horrific.

I don't mind Whalberg getting this role i actually think he's a good actor though i must admit i have a hard time seeing him as Nathat Drake especially when it comes to his voice.
Nathan Fillion would be the better fit, he already looks so much like Nathan Drake but i guess theres no changing things now.

Why do people keep suggesting Nathan Fillion? That guy kills almost every TV show he's in. The only thing he's done that has gone more than one season is that Castle show.

If you ask me, the main issue here is the fact that they are adding new characters. Movies already remove content to keep under a time limit, adding content means less of the original (good) content.

While it's true that all game-based movies suck (Tomb Raider, anyone?), wait until the Uncharted movie comes out before passing judgment. Mark Wahlberg might not have been my choice to play Nathan Drake, but I'm willing to give him a shot.

I would like to say one thing. Screw the movie. Just screw it. All the series fans know not to see it and everybody else will just think it's some stupid low budget movie. The cast is all wrong already with Mark Wahlberg (Who I am a fan of but Nathan Drake? Really?) and they will never be able to capture the best moments or feels of the game, just the cutscenes. Which were perfect as is. It won't be able to bring the joy you get from pulling someone out of a window or tranquilizer darting them in the actual game. Plus, the game cutscenes are already fictionally amazing and near death lucky. (i.e. Hanging off of a rail as a helicopter sprays 900 rounds per minute at you but somehow missing all of them; running from a truck that you shoot at and blow it's engine up at just the right time before you get ran over; jumping from a freaking falling train and onto a cliff, which you are barely hanging on.) I'm sorry, but as much as i love the game, it just WILL NOT WORK. just give all of your devoted fans a trilogy to suck on and fill your greedy little wallets with our hard earned cash. THAT is an idea that will work.
