Mark "Marky Mark" Wahlberg has confirmed that he will be playing Nathan Drake in the upcoming movie based on PS3 video game Uncharted. The movie, being headed by Three Kings director David O. Russel, will definitely star Wahlberg, but it may have some other big names as well.
Speaking to MTV, Wahlberg said: "I'm obviously in whatever David wants to do but the idea of it is so off the charts: De Niro being my father, Pesci being my uncle. It's not going to be the watered-down version, that's for sure."
Both Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci have been approached about playing members of Drake's family, although, in Hollywood terms, that doesn't mean too much.
While it's nice that that quality actors and directors are potentially attached to an Uncharted movie, and even higher quality actors are considering starring, I'm not overly excited, because if this movie ever actually gets made, it will suck. All movies based on video games suck. They have always sucked. No matter how cool they sound before they're made, they suck. SUCK!

I was not happy to read this news. Granted I like Mark Wahlberg in at least some of the movies he is in...he can be entertaining every now and then, and I like David O. Russell's work, or at least Three Kings...but this is all in all a bad call.
I understand that no movie will ever be like the games they are based off of, and it is a sad fact that 90% of those movies are also terrible and unfortunately the movie business keeps making the same mistakes over and over.
In my opinion there were really only a few choices you could really make for Nathan Drake, the first and most obvious choice being Nathan Fillion (I mean come on, the character is practically based off of him and his past performances), Nolan North (the voice actor who did such an amazing job of bringing Drake to life in the game), or as a last choice Chris Evans (some people may not agree with that choice, but I don't know...it seems to work well in my head). Nathan Fillion may be "TOO OLD" to some people, but gimme a break Stallone is still doing action movies and Fillion isn't even close to him in age.
I was very enthusiastic about this movie when I first heard they were planning to make one, it has all everything a movie needs to make it great, but with this news I find I am no longer interested in this movie in any way. The only good thing about Nathan Fillion not being in this movie is that if it ends up being terrible (which is a VERY strong possibility), it will not be placed on his head.

I'm not too sure it will suck, and not all movies based off of video games suck (It is just a matter of opinion on how well the movie is, not an actual measurement of its awesomeness). I liked the Silent Hill movie adaptation, and the Resident Evil movies. If this movie does get made I will definitely see it and see how well I like it.
But you can bet on one thing, If it does get made and it comes out on Blu-ray, Sony will make a PS3 bundle with it and Uncharted 1 or 2 or even both!

I agree with everyone else Nathan Fillion would be perfect as Drake!:) He looks like him and has the comedic timing. Just by watching Castle he reminds me of drake with his sense of humor and everything. Why can't they use him!! What about Nolan North!? He created the drake character in the first place. They should just use the cast from the games because they did an awesome job!:)I don't get it! I like mark wahlberg but he doesn't fit the part of drake. Seriously what's wrong with Hollywood!! If they knew better they would pick Nathan Fillion or the original cast of the games!

For me I am with pretty much everyone else who is against Mark Wahlberg being Nathan Drake. I don't need to give any more details since everyone here in one way or another has said all that needs to be said about why he is a poor choice.
My real gripe is the part of De Niro and Pesci being his family. Now I would have thought De Niro would have been Sully at least, not his father and I don't know who Joe Pesci would have played but I wondering if they are making this movie like a continuation of it because I already know damn well Nathan's father was never in the first or second game and no mention of an uncle so what the hell is the script-writer thinking putting in family members that were never mentioned or shown. We don't even know if Nathan's family is still alive or what in the games. I'm sure I'm bitching for no reason and that this might either change, be taken out or I'll just have to accept it is happening and judge further news accordingly on if I wish to see this movie.

Look you guys dont understand Nathan Fillion isn't popular enough of an actor to play Nathan Drake in a David O. Russell movie. Its true he would be a great Nathan Drake but people wouldnt be interested in the movie, but since they added Robert De Niro and Mark Whalberg then the casual audience who doesnt even know that this movie is based on a video game will start pouring inn.

I suppose I'm probably the only one who thinks this but IMO Nick Lachey looks exactly like Drake. It doesn't really matter he cannot act - the script/movie, et al. will suck regardless. Just get someone who looks close to the part and throw dirt on him - whose butt looks great in those jeans. :)

I have to admit, I'm excited about Uncharted coming to life on the big screen but VERY disappointed that Mark Wahlberg is going to play Nathan. Bad...Mark Wahlberg isn't funny. Not that the game was a comedy, but Nathan is funny, snarky and sarcastic. I've yet to see a movie with Wahlberg where he displayed any of those traits. Sigh...I just hope they do it right and who knows, maybe Wahlberg will surprise all us Uncharted fans and pull it off. I'm not writing it off yet.

If you want a game to be turned into a movie, don't kill off one of the greatest games of the decade. Instead, go pick on a game like Heavy Rain. All the work there has been done for you so all you need to do is get a working cast. (Heavy Rain pretty is much a movie without actors itself ain't it?)

lol dang steve's got some anguish. but i think he has the right to. not the most perfected cast, or the one in my mind that would go great with this movie.
