According to video game industry analyst Doug Creutz, Tony Hawk: Shred sold only around 3,000 copies in the last week of October, a dismal performance for any game, but a particularly dismal performance for a game bearing the name of skater Tony Hawk.
According to Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, there may be hope for the beleaguered Shred. He pointed out to Gamasutra that The Ellen DeGeneres Show has just named Shred as one of the top gifts for the holiday season,
“There’s hopefully a method to that madness,” he says. “For the first time we’re targeting that game to kids. It’s a gift-oriented game, but, that said, we need to build awareness for the game still. … I think you’ll hopefully see a bigger ramp-up as we get further into the gift giving season."
Hey, remember when Tony Hawk games were eagerly awaited and generally awesome titles? I do... I haven't played Shred yet, so perhaps it's a largely overlooked gem, but I wouldn't put any money on it...

I remember when Tony Hawk games USED to be good, when they did the realistic skateboarding thing i was bored to tears, i liked when it was grind rail, hit half pipe really high, pull off like 7 tricks 9 if you can Transverse (forgot what its called) on landing.
when they released that skateboard controller, i knew it was going to flop. a friend of mine got hurt while playing it. and ive seen youtube videos of people falling and even breaking the board cause of landing on it or just out of frustration. well tony hawk series is getting too old, leave the skateboarding to franchises like SKATE and Shawn White. at least those are intresting.

IMHO sports games in general aren't that popular anymore. People want a video game with a good fictional story with a compelling hero or heroine. Such heroes and heroines as Commander Shepard, Master Chief, Batman, Lara Croft, and Bayonetta. Not some athlete, athletes are not heroes anymore. Most athletes are money grubbing corrupt individuals that no one wants to look up to anymore.

If Tony wants some money...re-release Pro Skater 2 on ALL consoles. I bet a lot of people will buy it.

Wow 1st I think they should go back to basic TH2 was my personal favorite everything after that seemed too busy 2nd get rid of stupid peripherals If I wanted to actually crouch and hop and do all stuff I'd actually Frakking Skateboard. 3. get rid of ridiculous stories and free roaming.

I didn't even know it was out, or even in development. I honestly believe this game had no marketing behind it. I didn't see any previews around prior to launch either.

The '90s are over. Time to pick up a new hobby, Tony.

see this is what happens when you repeatively milk a game franchise. the original gameplay starts to get old then they change it, then that fails and they try to make more games that have the new gameplay and it seriously fails, and finally they realize they shouldnt of changed anything, but its to late the franchise is dead and the only way to bring it back is to wait a few year and come out with something thats actually good or even better than all the games.
See activision thats what you do to your games. keeps milkin one out every year and eventually you'll F it all up like you did with this. so how about waiting a while to put out games instead of every year because Call of Duty and Guitar Hero and probly some other games are heading for this exact senario.

Any game not putting out reviewable copies into the media's hands, before release, sounds like crappy quality hiding. Well, they suckered at least 3,000 grandparents who decided to get their Christmas shopping done early.
ZyloWolfBane
Good, now can you stop trying to milk things that wont sell?
Raisinbman
Holy shiz, 3,000? How many employees were forced to buy it?
DreamingDarklyRobin
The few ads I've seen makes me assume that Activision has given up on this as well.

I, too, had no clue about this game. I consider myself pretty up-to-date on releases. And I just had no clue. Last good TH game was on the PS2. You've had your run, Tony.
Tylerr
Didn't even know this game existed untill i saw this article.
Not that it mattered, i haven't played a hawk game since my early ps2 days.
OBLIVIONxSPAWN
Since the 'Skate' first came out there has not been any Tony Hawk game to come out that looks remotely appealing or fun. Which is said, because when I was a kids they were some of my favorite games ever.
CujoSWAoA
I'd like to get drunk and fall off the board and then sue. Lawlerballers.
