Yesterday BioWare teased us with a mystery screen shot and binary codes. Today rumors are swirling that the unannounced game is actually a Mass Effect multiplayer spin-off, which I've named "Mass Effect of Duty."
Mass Effect 1 and 2 are sci-fi RPGs with no multiplayer elements. According to an unnamed "development source" BioWare Montreal is working on a spin-off game that will appeal more to the Call of Duty demographic. The source went on to tell Kotaku that the game would follow the same formula as CoD and Halo: A light story mode and heavy on multiplayer. The single-player lead would not be Commander Shepard.
BioWare Montreal announced several months ago that they were looking for multiplayer programmers. BioWare's co-founder, Greg Zeschuck, mentioned in a past interview that other games that take place in the Mass Effect universe but aren't a part of the current Mass Effect trilogy could be made. Does this mean we could be getting Mass Effect Online?
In yesterday's post, many of you speculated in the comments that this game could be a FPS set in the Mass Effect universe taking place during the Contact Wars. Some G4 readers said they didn't care what the game was as long as it wasn't a "Mass Effect ODST." If the development source is right, that could be exactly what we're getting.
I guess we'll have to wait until December 11 to know for sure.

Wait a minute, you say that you have evidence that it may be a Call of Duty-like Mass Effect game, and then you go and say based on this evidence it would be the Halo ODST equivalent of Mass Effect. So how the hell is Call of Duty anything like ODST?

It won't be a Mass Effect: ODST, Bioware are too good of a group of writers to allow that. Even if it is light on story it will be light on a good story.

Well, it's Mass Effect's Facebook Profile Picture. Doesn't that guarantee that it's Mass Effect related? And why isn't "Facebook" in this site's spellchecker?
The First Contact War was almost all naval battles, except for the Occupation of Shanxi, which was a boringly long, pointless, and ultimately indecisive siege of a military outpost by the Turians. It doesn't sound much like game material.
But something like Mass Effect of Duty should switch playable characters between levels like Call of Duty. Also it should be like Mass Effect: Black Ops, because then you could do awesome, covert, Salarian Special Tasks Group stuff.

If this does turn out to be a FPS. I will be very curious as to how Bioware might incorporate some of the Mass Effect elements into it or not even utilize those elements for a straight forward shooter. I do not recall Bioware doing a FPS before, which could be interesting how they adapt from hardcore RPG design to FPS, but it remains to be seen if they will even go FPS or co op RPG or plain multiplayer mayhem. Never know till VGS 2010.

Okay I won't write it off if its FPS but it should be 3rd person and add rolling like GoW. The rest of the mechanics for Mass Effect wouldn't need to change because its awesome. All I pray for is Cyro Blast so I can run around freeze some suckers and than punch them in the face. Than watch them shatter and say YAY! frozen body limbs all over the place! HAHAHA
Also they should just just have a kinect feature for throwing your biotic powers THAT IS IT NOTHING ELSE JUST THAT. Or if there is like hacking or something and using your hands to move things around really fast to solve a puzzle would be sick. But that's something more likely to be in Mass Effect 3. Anyways if they stick to what Mass Effect is and don't go off the beaten path than I am sure this will be a pretty good game. Brink is my alternative to CoD. And hopefully this game can be my alternative to Gears. And by alternative I mean take a break and play something new that is actually good and can keep up with those big titles.

whatever it is they are making, I doubt anything made by Bioware will have a "light story".

Frankly, this is bioware we are talking about. I would be okay if they made a Mass Effect ODST, because unlike bungie, they could actually pull it off.

Even though Jade Empire 2 would be nice, this new game does seem interesting from the information released so far. We'll see it on the 11th.

Mass Effect Online would be killer. But not likely to happen. Call of Duty wouldn't allow it.

Well, Bioware is one of the most dependable game companies out there, so i trust that whatever it is, it's gonna make me want to pee m'pants due to it's awesomeness.
