Remember last week when Adam said he was having sequel fatigue? Yeah well, there's an exception to every rule, and in this week's Soapbox the Sess explains why Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is that exception. With a fully realized historical world, intelligent and adult themed story lines, and tens of hours of playtime, Brotherhood may be well worth the ticket price.

I don't know why people are getting hung up on how much this game "feels like it's an extension of AC2". It's still a great story, so why not just be happy at all this new content that's been added to the game's mythos?
Spoiler Warning:
Anybody have a guess as to whom those voices during the credits belonged to? Maybe HQ?

I love you Sess :-). I really want Brother hood to be good cause to be honest I didn't like A.C ll. I felt that all the things they said they would improve on like not repeating things so much, actually was worse in AC ll. For instance I can't tell you how many racing sequences I played and frustrating ones at that. I just kept playing for progression of story rather than enjoyment with the latter. Even the physics was worse in part two. I pay attention to detail probably because my brother is a videogame designer, but one thing bugged me so much. When you run with your horse in AC 1 your horse can run through streams and the physics are great and you see the water splash. In AC ll I was running through water with my horse and you could literally see the polygons where the water connected to the bank and also it didn't move when the horse stepped in it. It's details like that that annoyed me so much. I was never worried about the story because they are great at that so details in a game where story is already great makes that much more difference. The horses also looked more anatomically more inferior. Maybe I just notice that because I am an equine vet I dunno. I just found a lot of things like that that were fine in the forst game so there is def no excuse for it to be so bad the second time around.

I've never liked Assassin's Creed.
I beat the first one mainly out of a sense of completionism. It failed to deliver on the gameplay mechanics Jade said it'd have except for climbing. Combat was fun but not even as fun as GTA3's car chases. The sidequests were extremely repetitive leaving the only potential source of celebration the story which was anvilicious and drawn-out.
The 2nd game I tried for a few hours and it's not much better. Combats improved. There's more game mechanics to tie in with those already existing and there's an encylopedia to go with it. But the Italian accents are horrible and not much else is improved. That climatic fight at the end of AssCreed 1? Players still don't get to take part.
1:53 I'ven't heard anyone say they hate the free-climbing. That's the best part of the game.
2:43 AssCreed's plot wasn't anywhere near Bioshock's.
5:14 The last game came out last year. They've said something will come out next year. What else would you expect but another game?

Honestly I was debating buying this game. Somehow Adam always gives a 100% pure honest review that makes me go 'wow, I actually want this game now' or 'Damn, im not touching that game, I might get gonasiphaherpalitus'. Also sometimes I think he is damn wrong, but that is rare.
Anyway, great review.

My favorite soapbox yet.
LoveAsThouWilt
I have a topic that I would like to see in the Soapbox or Feedback, and since I have no idea where to leave such an idea I'll comment it at the very least.
My issues is that of CGI trailers/cinematics and the gameplay itself of videogames. There are games out there that are bridging the gap in what can be done in games: ie seamless transition in game from cutscene to game-play. But when I see a trailer like the Old Republic MMO I go "Holy hell I want!" then I see the game and I go "screw this that looks like crap!" I have a big issue when games are teased to look awesome, but the game-play itself does not look anything like it. Even DragonAge has done it recently with the DA2 trailer. Looking at that is just *drools* but when you see the gameplay trailer you see that it definitely resembled DAO, but its more refined, looks better, but it is also nowhere close to the CGI trailer itself, which is what I would except when the claim they are streamlining the story along the lines of Mass Effect (which does have seamless transition in cutscenes, although a bit disappointing at times. Just compare ME1 romance scene to ME2 and you'll get my meaning. They definitely held back due to criticism of the first game and I hate that. Adults are your primary source of income, so give us your best!)
I am wondering as to when are we finally going to reach that point where the games look as good as their trailers. Because if Old Republic looked like the trailer, I would play. I understand the issue with such an undertaking, I mean, look at Metal Gear, the reason those games are so huge (in file size) is because they don't skimp. Perhaps that is the bigger issue in this day and age where only one of the Hardcore system allows for bluray (meaning, much more capacity for games with less cost or multiple discs). Don't get me wrong, I love my xbox (heck I don't even own a ps3 yet), but I do predict that Bluray is the next direction all consoles are going (with the exception of Nintendo, because to me it is not a Hardcore system. A few mature titles don't make it a system for adult gamers. I want my mature stories that treat me as the intelligent 21 year old adult-kid that I am! I enjoy my kid-ish retro platformers every now and then (hell, my favorite platformer would have to be BanjoKazooie, I love those 2 lol I want a new game, but I can wait). But sometimes the repetitive tales and child-like humor gets a bit old, even for me whom went through Mario Galaxy 2 collecting all stars (not the green ones though, I got bored and went on to better games).
Since I don't know how to end this I will just stop here.

just got it today

Great Soapbox. I think we all need to remember the driving force, albeit not initially, is money. I mean this both positively and negatively. While it takes a good bit of coin to make the games, I completely understand the desire to milk a franchise. This can free up other opportunities to develop some different games and perhaps a cash cushion gives freedom to try something more risky. Negatively, we all know they aren't always going to use the excess cash to refine their craft or develop a new cutting edge game. Sometimes it just lines pockets and encourages rushed sequels. For our sake, and AC:Brotherhood, lets hope its the former.
MyXxBitterXxHeroics
I agree with Adam's fable 3 comment. Honestly, I expected sooooo much more from it, Peter Molyneux (sp?) will not see another cent from me as long as amazing games that come through and deliver oh so much, like the AC franchise, is around.
HammerfistClan.com
AC Brotherhood looks great and if your a multiplayer fan than maybe this is exciting. At the end of the day my 59.99 will be saved. I can't be convinced to play in the same world for that many hours again... even if you upgrade a few things.
On that note... I agree this should be handled with care and perhaps the next release will be more than DLC and patches. By the time that happens though I plan to be well into SWTOR and this and any other console temptress will go unpleasured.
Spybreak
I really want it but I still haven't finished ACII, lol such a backlog. I grabbed NFS Hot Pursuit today as well. One thing I do and enjoy in the Assassin Creed games is explorations and the free roam is perfect for that.
weejer32
this game is amazing, i agree with everything that sessler said and i need to play some more! too bad i only rented it.
Vastice
i preordered this for th PC a couple weeks or even a month ago so what will happen now? Anyone know?

if there are seriously people who weren't going to buy this game until they saw this soapbox, you are:
a) a magnificent retard. seriously, you guys should know by now that anything this ubisoft team touches is gold.
b) an unpleasant moron. think for yourself. seriously, try it sometime. if you need people to tell you what to buy, then you are just part of the problem.
