Epic Games is expected to make a Kinect-related Gears of War reveal at Spike TV’s upcoming Video Game Awards, and while nothing is known for sure at this point, Epic’s Cliff Blizinsky has clarified one of the rumors swirling around the interwebs: “No Kinect in Gears of War 3.”
According to sources close to IGN, Epic is working on a Gears project that will incorporate Kinect in some fashion. One of the leading bits of speculation was that perhaps Gears 3 would be getting a little motion sensing/voice recognition love from Microsoft’s newly released camera system. But that’s apparently not the case.
Instead, we could be looking at a Gears-inspired, Kinect powered spinoff, or maybe even a patch for previous Gears games. I’m pulling for a new game, because when it comes to anything motion controlled, it’s always better when it’s built from the ground up rather than simply having the controls tacked on to an existing game.
Fortunately, the wondering will be over come December 11 when the VGAs are taped.

I can picture it now,not gears as we know it but a prequel(with less skilled characters so no jumping around and hitting ure tv).think of the possibilities.Kliff said himself gears 3 will remain untouched by kinect wich is good.But gears 3 was going to be the last installment and now were getting a new one probably a prequel or spinoff.And besides Kliff is a genious heel know how to make. Good use of kinect.I mean at least were getting another gears.But I do th-nk its gonna need to be semi controll semi movement game(maybe a chansaw gun periferall who knows).I for one am excited about another gears even if it is on kinect.

Okay people...are we really doing this again?? Last time when the Kinect was first introduced as Project natal, people did nothing but complain about how it was a stupid idea and it wouldn't work. Then once it's released,everyone is on the whole no hardcore games bandwagon. Now one million Kinects later, Epic has stepped with the announcement of a Kinect inspired Gears games, and people complain saying it won't work!!??? How more hardcore can you get then gears?? Now it won't work, and it's a bad idea?? What's wrong with you people!!??
Do you really think Epic games would even attempt to take a risk on their biggest franchise to date, if they thought it wouldn't work? Bleszinski isn't stupid rich and the head of Epic games for nothing. The guy obviously knows what works, when it comes to giving fans of Gears what they want. I'm pretty sure it won't be a full body experience where you'll have to do barrel rolls across your living room for cover. I also doubt you'll have to tranform your living room into a battle ground, where you'll have to climb over your couch like a crate either. Let's just wait until after the announcement, and more info is given about this game before we rush to judgement.

I would love to see a video of someone trying to do a backflip or frontflip right into the tv screen.

Kinect and Gears do not go togather. Maybe in the future but not now I am glad that I will be playing Gears 3 the way I played the first 2. Still one of my all time fav. series of games. Gears for life.

I hope it's a hybrid, I'd like to be able to order other COGs to flank right or left or "hold up" using one hand.

I don't want to see a gears spin off with kinect controls, I want companies to make original new IPs. How about they make Epic Citadel for the 360 using kinect controls.

use your controler to play, but for that one sec you can do hand to hand combat. thats when you stand up and take couple of swings at the locust lol, that would be sick

I really just don't see how you can use kinect in an shooter. I have heard a few things that sound cool on the surface, like pretending to throw a grenade to throw one in game or calling out commands, but if you give these things some thought, they would never work. To do the grenade thing, you have to take one hand off the controller, raise it over your head, pretend to throw something, and get back to the controller. Depending on which hand you use, you will either have to stop moving (left hand) or stop shooting/ not be able to hit any buttons(right hand). That doesn't sound like a lot, but trust me, that split second will make a world of difference. For calling out commands, you either have to have no ambient noise so as to not have a command accidentally be heard or have commands be so specific that using voice command will become a pain. Also, how do you do commands when multiple people are playing? not to mention the fact that I think most people will find shouting at their tv uncomfortable at best. I just dont see it working

@EKG: Totally agree with you there. Gears has far to many commands that a controller is needed for.
You actually DO need a controller to perform certain functions, lets say for the most part shooting lol.
My two main points, MS shouldn't have stated "shake everything but a controller" in their ad, that way they wouldn't have to worry about putting their foot in their mouths later on where a controller is needed with kinetic on a game(I'm saying limited edition GOW3 gun controllers)
And the fact that kinetic should be nowhere near Gears...just not right.

I think it will end up being a RTS. The Gears version of Halo Wars. Just picturing grabbing a squad and moving them to a new location with just a swipe of your hand!
