Thor, Okami's Amaterasu Confirmed For Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Super-heroic fighting game Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 has a release date. It's coming out on February 15, so start saving up now. Capcom also revealed a "collector's edition" of the game that will feature Resident Evil’s Jill Valentine and Marvel character Shuma-Gorath as downloadable content available a month after the launch of the game.

Here are the other extras you'll enjoy with the $70 collector's edition:

  • Steelbook case featuring exclusive art work
  • Comic/Art book- A 12-page prologue comic, written by Marvel writer Frank Tieri, plus campaign art and a curated selection of fan art.
  • 1-month Subscription to Marvel Digital Comics, providing unlimited online access to Marvel content
  • 2 Playable DLC Characters – Shuma Gorath and Jill Valentine. Content is available 4 weeks post-launch.

So, what do you guys think? Is the extra content worth the ten-spot it will take to pick them up? Is it "fair" to reserve certain DLC only for people who want the collector's edition?

This in my opinion is the best fighter in the world. I'm surprised they haven't come up with a marvel vs dc game yet. I'm sure the idea rolled around but i guess it would upset a lot of people.

so its pay 10 now, get the two extra fighters plus some extras or wait till DLC and pay 10 for just the fighters...

    i dont see an issue.

of course they want you to buy the collectors. but you dont have to.

My only reservation is I don't care for buying 3-4 different versions of the same game. And I mean just on one platform. It's Capcom's M.O. There is currently Street Fighter IV, Super Street Fighter IV, and the soon to be release Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition (it will hit home eventually).

Then there are other games like Resident Evil 5. Isn't there 2 versions on the Xbox and 3 on the PS3?

Anyway, this just means I will not be picking this game up. I'll get it when the Super Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Ultimate WTF Pwnage Tounament Edition gets released.

People are seriously complaining about the number of characters to pick from in this game?
You know how many we could pick from in SF2???? EIGHT!

I think they have a really good start here.

I wouldn't mind buying groupings of 5 characters for $10 a pop... as long as they are worth while characters and not just re-skinned current players with all the same moves but a different look.

    Ugh, good ol capcom again.

If we want to get the same sized roster as MvC2 we're going to have to buy a dozen or so characters as DLC now, I friggin knew they would pull this after how they pulled the costume BS on SF4.

Im calling it here, characters will cost $2-$5 a peice.

i would prefer the video game industry take an approach similar to this in regards to future dlc. If you are an early adopter or get the collectors editions than you will have free access to most if not all future dlc. Just include a VIP code or something similar like BC2

I think you're making some false assumptions with this article here, let's look at SSFIV:

If you preordered, you got costumes which were TIMED EXCLUSIVES. They weren't COMPLETELY exclusive, those who did not preorder had to wait a couple weeks and buy them. Speaking from a business perspective, this is what they should(and have previously done w/ SSFIV) do.

Also, the DLC characters are under a timed release - maybe they'll be available to everyone at the same time, just Non-collector's will have to pay.

I can't wait for this game!!!! My only concern is that they have so little characters. With Jill and Shuma Gorath as DLC that's 30 total fighters available. I was hoping for 35-40 before DLC. Don't get me wrong I'm still going to buy it, but it's a little disappointing.

This is the reason I never liked DLC. Before this generation we never had to worry about any of this, everyone got the same game with same characters. Some characters maybe locked but playing the game to unlock them was the prior generations' version of "achievements."

At any rate they will release the 2 characters later for a small cost. If they were free then I would be a happy camper.

can we see a video of jill in action? from the image on kotaku, it looks like the RE5 jill. will she have the same move set as MvC2 or a different one?

In any other genre of game, character availability wouldn't be a problem. However in the fighting genre, people need time to polish their skills with each character. I don't approve of having to get the collector's edition to ensure I have all the characters. I will buy it, but I don't approve of having to buy it.
