The phrase “It’s on like Donkey Kong” has been part of the pop-culture vernacular for decades, but now Nintendo is attempting to claim ownership of the nostalgic idiom by filing a trademark request with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
It’s all part of Nintendo’s preparation for the November 21 release of its upcoming Wii title Donkey Kong Country Returns.
I find it strange that Nintendo didn’t do this sooner. I mean, the phrase has been around forever, and it’s not like Nintendo was ever going to abandon Kong, so the big guy’s never really going to be out of the public consciousness anyway. I guess better late than never, right?
Quick Poll: When was the last time you actually used the phrase “It’s on like Donkey Kong” in a conversation?
Should the need arise, feel free to E-Mail me your tips, suggestions, and/or personal philosophies, or follow me on Twitter.

Fail, Nintendo... but I mean, at least they're "doing Something" with their extra money, right? Lol.
I use this phrase on "Monster Hunter Tri" often xD (It's set as a shout-out in the game :P )

last night when a guy was acting so immature at the club..... he kept shaking his finger in my face telling me to not be mean.... told my friend that if that guy got in my face once more....... its on like Donkey Kong......lol I am not mean but I don't like people getting in my face ( especially people I don't know)

HA! I used it today believe it or not. Trademark? How in the world would they enforce that? Whatever, guess they don't own enough things and make enough money.

I used it in an essay once. My teacher was annoyed with that, as well as the general goofiness that was what the whole essay turned out to be. He still had to give me full credit though, because I did everything right. That probably annoyed him even more.

The last time I used the phrase, "It's on like Donkey Kong" was about 3 seconds before I had sex with my wife last night.

DarkKirby2500 said it all. Its for marketing not to stop people from using it aside from its competitors

@avc75
They aren't trying to copyright it they are trying to make it a trademark. two entirely different things
A Trademark IS a symbol or a phrase that the company feels represents there stores
Such as the Target Logo or the phrase "Im Lovin' it"
As for Nintendo... Really? how long has this phrase been around?
bigmonstefan
oh no, nintendo is becoming disney
