According to the BBC, a Star Wars game that uses the Microsoft Kinect controller is coming in 2011, so we may all finally get a decent motion-controlled lightsaber game! I know I've been waiting since the Wii was announced in 2006.
According to Kinect's creative director, Kudo Tsunoda:
"We have a Kinect Star Wars game coming out for next holiday [Christmas 2011]... I think you could just easily imagine being a Jedi and using Kinect to make you feel you're part of a Star Wars experience, building yourself up into a Jedi. I've seen a bunch of the game and it's super compelling."
I think a Kinect Star Wars game could totally work, but in my perfect world, the game would be controlled by a combination of the controller and the Kinect, and each would be used when appropriate. I don't want to fly an X-Wing using Kinect, but I do want to swing a Kinect lightsaber. Know what I mean?

The game as presented in the demo is not on rails. If you pay attention he motions his arms to dash forward. Walking could be as simple as taking a small step forward and the character will move as long as the pose is held, not requiring any repetitive walking motion. Although I find it humorous how no one seems to want to even consider the possibility of getting some actual exercise.

The game as presented in the demo video is not on rails. If you pay attention he motions his arms to dash forward. How he walks normally is anyone's guess. It could be as simple as taking a single step forward and the character will move as long as your foot is forward.
Also there is the possibility of actually having to make walking motions and get some exercise. I find it humorous that no one seems to want to consider such a thing.

By the time this comes out, object scanning will be more a part of games. So potentially, me owning a few lightsabers, I could scan one in (or all in so I have a choice of colors) and just use that instead of nothing. Also, the potential for using force powers is awesome! Open hand pushed toward the screen = force push, fingers pointed out at the screen = force lightning, putting your fingers to your head = jedi mind trick, holding your hand out over a person or object = force grab, force jump is a little trickier depending on ceiling height - maybe placing hands above head. Anyway, looking forward to seeing how the technology will work with this game.

Might go hybrid ^^^

None of you have played Sports Champions. Its obvious that the gladiator game is a great example that the Move tracks your body positioning very well. You don't have to hold your weapon in any sort of conventional way. Replace the shield with force powers and your good to go. I agree that it doesn't seem that the Kinect will allow you to move around... very curious where this is gonna go.

Kinect? It will work with the Move dildo better. If it is a game about using about the force, it will work on Kinect perfectly.

@impurestcrowd- I'm african american, dark skin as well, and I own a Kinect....It works just fine. The issue isn't skin color it's lighting. If you're in a dark room or a room with poor lighting, chances ar it won't work all that well. But if you actually have good lighting throught your room like I do, then it won't be an issue. Why not try and actually play the Kinect and form a opinion from that instead of just going off of anything you've read about it since it's release

There sure are a lot of psychics here, considering the game hasn't been released or even shown. Perhaps it's just the bitter PS3 fanboys, still upset about the success of Kinect and COD.
BTW, losers don't tell developers how to make their games

The is gonna be on rails you cant move your person with kinect, I rather it using Wii motion plus or move.

Sweet! No one knows how it will work yet. Kinect can scan objects so you could use anything you want as a lightsaber or may come with a peripheral. Sony boys are just mad Kinect is getting the love.

i agree total crap

I'm starting to notice the closet fanboys on this thread. The idea of a Star Wars game on Kinect is a bad idea, but on the move it's a great idea because you can hold a controller with a glowing ball and pretend it's a lightsaber?? Is that why it would be better on the Move?? It's reached a point where you can no longer say if an upcoming game is going to be good or not until it is out. We all thought the Kinect was going to be crap, and everyone is eating their words. We though the PSPGo was going to be awesome, and you see where that went. For all we know this upcoming star wars game could be the best thing to come to the Kinect, or the fanboys can be right and it can just be crap. But I doubt that the fanboys will be right about this one.

Apparently Lucas Arts doesn't agree with you ^^^

The Kinect Star Wars footgage they showed at E3 looked ridiculous. An on rails light saber game where you just wave your arms around. Lame.
The augmented reality possibilities of the move could be insane with a lightsaber game!

this should b very interesting

So if the Kinect Star Wars game comes out in about a year, Do you think that development time will be spent more on making the mechanics amazing? Or making the story amazing?
Aegis_Leingod
This sounds like those arcade machines you find that use motion controls with a gun or boxing gloves
So all they have to do is be able to implement it with the same kind of finess that the arcade machines do and mass produce it.
