Battlefield Play4Free is a new, free, web-based shooter from Electronic Arts that promises to give fans yet another way to enjoy DICE's modern warfare franchise. Did I mention it was free?
The free-to-play title will feature 32-player multiplayer and pack the same highly-polished punch fans have come to expect from DICE’s acclaimed military shooter series. In classic Battlefield fashion, players will have access to a wide array of weaponry and 16 vehicles, such as the Mil Mi-28 attack helicopter and the Russian T-90 tank.
"We broke new ground in 2009 with the launch of Battlefield Heroes; a game that has 6M registered players worldwide. Now we are complementing that arcade shooter with a core, realistic Battlefield shooter experience that fans have been clamoring for," said senior producer James Salt. "Battlefield Play4Free is for serious shooter fans who are looking for a premium — but free — experience that rivals top console titles."
Here are a few screenshots EA released via Twitter today:

The full game won’t go live until spring 2011, but you can head over to the game’s site to sign up for the beta, which starts November 30.
EA also released a new Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam Hill 137 trailer today. I know. None of this is the Battlefield 3 news you've been craving, but it should hold you over.
Should the need arise, feel free to E-Mail me your tips, suggestions, and/or personal philosophies, or follow me on Twitter.

Kind of looks like an updated version of that old 1942 mod. Really? The Russians again? Still, looks pretty cool :)

Well it's free, so of course I'm going to at least try it out. It does look a LOT like BF2, but I do have to say it is nice to hear the Battlefield theme again. Missed having it in Bad Company 2

No amount of quick cuts or rock music can make this dated game look great. I'll stick to Bad Company 2 thank you very much.

So...it's BF2? Don't get me wrong, I loved BF2, but that's exactly what this looks like.
