As most of you already know, Adam is in Washington D.C. for the Supreme Court hearing regarding California's Violent Video Games law. After spending some time within the hallowed halls, Adam stepped outside to take a stand on his Soapbox and let you all know what's going on inside. Find out who said what, which Justices seemed to understand the context and gravity of this decision, and when we'll find out if this law is in fact unconstitutional.

Glad I don't live in California...but lets say this was a nation wide law. How does something like this get regulated????
Let's say I go in a buy Grand Theft Auto 5 for myself..and lets say I have a son of about 7 years old. Now, if I'm playing this, is is most likely late at night while he is sleeping or over at this gran parents for the weekend.
But how would a person prove all of this?
And is there going to be some government inspector knocking on your door wanting to check out your video game collection? This stuff is just really silly. Reminds me of the beginnings of what would become the Christian Bale movie, Equilibrium. REMOVE ALL ITEMS THAT CAUSE EMOTIONS!!

Plus, how the hell can the law be reasonably enforced if this case passes? Did the politicians do the smart logistical work and think of surveillance methods or ways to keep tab on EVERY possible video game retail transaction? No, I think they did not. Wasting our time and money.
Hey, if it passed, at least we wouldn't have to worry about our kids buying bad drugs from shady dealers now... they'll get their video games from the black market too.

Don't blame this just on the government, y'know. The governing politicians don't do things like this unless there's a large amount of whiners who will give them votes -- and these whiners are always protesting the people who are too lax with their freedoms (in this case, parents letting their younger-than-teeny bopper kids doing whatever the fudge they want).
Blame the breeders, too!
And the Supreme Court, for clearly not having anything more important to do.

In this great nation a man and/or women can burn the American flag in protest and is protected by the first amendment. A news writer can call America a cheap slut hooker and be protected by the first amendment. A game developer can create a game and its not protected. This is were the Bill of Rights is bent all out of shape, something thats clearly protected by the amendments, Is pushed out of the box and called unconstitutional. This is government at its finest.

I think he got kicked off of the steps because the cop of whoever it was didn't know what he was doing there. You are not allowed to protest and/or make political statements with the supreme court on its grounds as it is supposed to be (but probably isn't) a politically neutral court. You cannot do something like protest as if the justices feel threatened, it could change their vote. So, in general, you are not allowed to be on the grounds of the court unless you are entering or existing the building.

But i'm surprised that MS or Sony have not thrown some money towards lawyers or put in their input even on this for one it would be great PR. And two it's just the right thing especially microsoft because we made them swimming in money and they don't even bother to stand up for our rights as consumers.

So you're not allowed your first amendment right to free speech on the steps of the United States Supreme Court? Or maybe you're just not allowed to talk about videogames there? It's clear that there's a lot of confusion and mixed signals going on right now, and unfortunately if the justices of the Supreme Court make a bad decision there could be a snowball effect like Mr. Sessler stated that could affect every other form of entertainment we choose to partake in. This does not make me very confident at all that a fair and unbiased decision will be made.

Hopefully it is put to rest with this ruling. That would suck if half the country has it so you can't buy violent games without your parent. I'm interested in seeing how close it is going to be though. It'll speak volumes about the justices.

#2 if this is supremely an issue, and sales to minors was ever as serious, shouldn't the system developers (MS & Sony) have the say or at least step in on their own programming by keeping rated material locked out of the system play, (not including the PC discussion). it would show support to Bread & Butter game designers, at least. and hopefully restricted material becomes a parents responsibility and a know part of purchasing of a system. and making the availability of adult content of which requiring adult identification...apart of updating a system. which can be done.. now...online.
whatever its really not an issue. just wouldn't want to see game design getting mulled under, so to be made available in wal mart.
