Madden Rivalry Turns MurderousAn argument over a game of Madden turned deadly in Kansas late last week. According to police, on Thursday night, four "friends" were chilling out and playing Madden on the PlayStation 3 when a fight broke out. When the dust settled, Luke German, 22, was dead on the front lawn, and his three friends were wanted by police.

According to Lt. Ken Landwehr, head of the Wichita Police Department's homicide section, German died of "severe internal injuries" consistent with being kicked, punched and perhaps struck by a pipe. He was taken to a hospital, but died shortly thereafter.

As for the motive: "Somebody was accused of cheating," Landwehr said. Obviously, this is the worst reason to kill someone ever, except, maybe religion.

Two suspects were arrested immediately in the case, while a third, Benjamin Redgate, was just picked up this morning. That's Redgate in the photo to the right.

I just hoping.... and i mean i'm really hoping......cuz god know that the world will put blame on an object nowadays......that they do not blame video games for this.

While we're on the subject of violence through media.........everyone wants to know What the kids were listening to? What type of games they were playing? What type of music they were listening? What kind of movies were they watching? Who gives a crap what they were watching? Whatever happened to crazy? What happened to crazy?????? What?...you can't be crazy no more? Did we eliminate crazy from the dictionary??? %$@# the music. %$@# the movie. %$@# the game. Crazy!! When I was a kid, they use to seperate the crazy kids from everybody. When I was a kid, the crazy kids went to school on a little yellow bus, they had a class at the end of the school, and they use to get out of school at 2:30......just in case they went crazy...they would only hurt other crazy kids.

Now we are at the suspreme court. Why do peoeple do this?? Are they bored and need something to do? Please, this didnt just happen over night....if he or she was capable of doing this.....the parents and/or friends at least had a clue that the kid or kids weren't stable. Please dont have the parents coming out saying it was a complete shock. I refuse to believe for one second that a kid can play "madden" or play GTA a few times or even many times and then go outside and want to kill someone. "GTA made me do it. It looked like so much fun." "He or she's a cheater. I wanted justice." Sorry.....not gulible. I played violence games too from age 10 to present age 26 so tell me how me and those kids differ? I realized it was a video game.....just a video game. It is what it is, nothing more nothing less. I'm just not %$@#ing crazy basically.

    sorry for the rant...

I've gotten mad over a video game before but seriously.. Shut it off and walk away or something. I've had days where I thought about punching my husband and his friends in the face when they win, but Never killing anyone. Then again, we don't play Sports games either... I'd like to see the supreme court take down a company like Blizzard over something like a death over Madden.

What people don't realize is that a lot of politicians (that want a lot of your gaming rights taken away!) are going to use this as ammunition for there frivolous and pointless banter about how video games are destroying the youth of the world. You twenty-somethings need to really think about more important issues than making goofy remarks to this very serious problem. In the words of Tony Stark - "...It's about leaving a legacy."

I tell you, this is gonna hit EA hard. Harder than hard. The last thing EA needs to hear is that one of THEIR games is to blame for the death of a gamer. And all because someone was accused of cheating...

This is exactly why I never use cheat codes in my gaming. Sure, a lot of times I lose, and a lot of times I win, but in the end, I like knowing that I played a fair game, that I played my hardest, and that my fellow gamers (or the computer) played their (its) hardest.

I think EA needs to incorporate an "anti-cheating" feature that prohibits the use of cheat codes in multi-player games.

I don't know if we'll ever be able to prove either way whether or not someone was cheating. But when EA gets wind of this incident, they'll definitely want to take steps in an effort to curtail cheating.

"It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye." Then it gets serious enough.

But when someone loses his life?

That's about as serious as gaming gets.

That's.. sad.. very sad. Why is it so hard for people to understand that video games are not that serious. The reality is that you're still staring at a box! I'm not saying that I don't stare at a box for hours daily, but at least I know it!

Video games don't kill people...people kill people! Really stupid, impatient and should be medicated people! Some of you gamers really need wake up! Have a cold shower, possibly go outside and get some fresh air. Not your front step outside either. Take a walk in the park for a few hours, chill out, calm the nerves. I'm not sure if some of are aware of this, but in my experience, every game will have a winner and a loser. It's all about how you handle it. I deal with idiots like that all the time on NHL 11. You win some, you lose some. When I win, I like gloat about it. But when I lose, especially to the same person, it comes back at me ten fold. I take it in stride because I know it's a game and I enjoy playing it win or lose.

Here's a word of advice to those of you who like to use video games as a tool to manage your anger and this includes being a poor sport, DON'T! Do this instead. Take your console and games to the nearest pawn shop, sell it, than go home, curl up on the couch in the Snuggie you bought online and watch your Deluxe Edition of Mary Poppin's with your favorite teddy bear and nice bowl of popcorn.

Instead of restricting the sale of games to minors, maybe we should consider restricting the sale of games to flyover states.

Let us do the math: People killed playing video game football vs playing real football vs betting on football vs people killed by football players I think the video game football killers will be in the minority

There's always more to the story. Maybe this guy had been an butthole for years and they set him up for a beat down. I'm sure the writers are usng the word "friends" looselly. As per the cheating inquiries, maybe he was yanking the other player's controller out mid-play.

E rated games shouldn't be sold to people 18 and older. We're just not mature enough for them. We should simply stick to the m rated games that fit our demographic more appropriately.

I believe this could have happened over madden. I remember this kid that used to play street fighter with me and I would always beat him and one day he made the loudest screaming noise I ever heard and started throwing punches. Some people are just kinda off.

I don't understand how you can cheat in madden?
More than likely that was just the excuse they used, i'm betting it had more to do with something along the lines of drugs..
