With the exception of Stephen “I Like Mondays” Johnson, no one likes Mondays. However, the one shining beacon to be found in the imposing darkness of the week’s beginning has arrived: our open call for questions for this week’s Feedback!
This week, our panel will tackle two monumental topics: the launch of Microsoft Kinect and tomorrow’s violent video games Supreme Court case. A whole mess of games came out this week too, so feel free to draw inspiration from those as well. What I’m saying is, there is no shortage of topics to choose from, especially if you want to include Stephen Johnson jokes, which I know you do.

Is it really that bad????
All mainstream media goes through a natural evolution to fit the taste of the present consumer. This in my opinion is not a bad thing. Some changes, although at the time seemed worthless, tend to stick around and add something special to your experience. A perfect example of this was the rumble pack on the Nintendo 64. I couldn't imagine dishing out money to have a vibrating piece of plastic distract me from my current objective. But after refinement the rumble feature is standard on almost all controllers and serve valid purposes; letting you know your getting tattered with bullets or something that REALLY needs your attention is near. Now, years later, we see the motion control slap-fest and 3D as things we want to stray away from for being worthless and not conducive to our preferred experience. Do you think that this "Fad" will one day fulfill an empty need we as gamers didn't know we desired, or are we set on the idea that this is not what we can consider evolution, but rather a cash-in from confused corporate statistics?
P.S. I been with feedback from the first episode, l love what you guys do. Keep it up!!!!!!

Hey guys, recent events leave me a bit apprehensive, lately it seems controversies over video games have become more and more prevalent then they have in the past. The Mass Effect "sex scene", Modern Warfare's No Russian, the Taliban in Medal of Honor and even this absurd Supreme Court case. What do you think this says about video games as a medium? Do all these controversies show its maturation or is it only a black sheep as some news reporters find it acceptable to have an aversion to video games, without being well-versed on the subject (or sometimes versed at all) and without even playing them, presumably on the basis that they are somehow above games or journalistic integrity? Do these recent events show the weight society now equates with video games, or is it just more insanity what do you think this says about video games as a whole?
Thanks,
Grish56

Regarding the upcoming Supreme Court case, in a recent article on Gamasutra, a lawyer discussed why the Court would even have taken this case in the first place. The most common reason the Court takes cases is to settle disputes between the findings of courts in different states on similar cases. This is to clear the confusion and establish firmly the constitutional interpretation of cases. The author then said it is unclear in any other case why the Court would take a case if not to settle disputes. Given my understanding of the Courts history, the Court has oft taken cases to end continued legislative malfeasance. Legislatures will continue to try to make these content control laws, and it will only get worse. Do you believe, as I do, that the Court has taken this case to say clearly to legislatures that these kinds of laws are unconstitutional, or do you believe differently about the Court's intentions?

What are the serious ramifications as gamers that we need to be aware of should the Supreme Court Hearing on video games go south for us? I'm not sure if enough gamers are as aware as they should be to the case at hand. California cites Mario as a violent game, so if jumping on a goomba is violent then for the casual audience say bye bye to angry birds. For us hardcores our Call of Duty's, Halo's, Uncharted's, etc. run the risk of being permanently banned or even worse censored ( i truly believe it would be far worse for an art form to conform to government censorship than an outright ban, that is my opinion ). If you would be willing to dedicate any amount of time to this weeks feedback to make a gaming community call to action or bare minimum call to awareness it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks as always

How art thou Feedback maiden(s) and gents, my question is regarding bugs. They happen I expect them and don't let them bum me out, however somethings are just unacceptable, and if you lack quality internet or own a PS3 you could be stuck without ever being able to patch your game. So would youse guys rather developers release games to the reviewers a month early and let them get to test many of the flaws out and then patch them before the final release, or do you think developers should just cram games before the deadline and pray for the best. Thank your for your time, good day, afternoon or evening.

Recently i have seen microsoft finally advertise their motion controller, but the one thing i have seen is that the only game i seen them advertise is Just Dance or whatever its called. do you think that microsoft and sony know that their motion controller is going to suck the first year in.
I also think that ps move is going to sell better in the long run. one reason being is that i read in a article that you would have to stand 6 to 8 feet away from the television to play kinect. Two is the secret Star Wars game secretly in the work at Lucas Arts for the PS Move.

I'am one of many who can no longer watch g4 because of Directv. Do you guys know if we will ever get it back? If not, is it possible to have full episodes of xplay and aots posted on g4tv.com. Watching segments of the shows online is just not the same as watching the entire episode from begining to end.

How art thou Feedback maiden(s) and gents, my question is regarding developers, a lot of people are making joker towards Obsidian about their track record with picking up existing IPs and this has given reason to worry about Fallout NV which was great but very unpolished as was Fallout 3 but that was 2 years ago. Also Bioshock 2's critics often blame the absence of Irrational games for the argued dip in the games quality. My question is whats ya'lls stance on new developers picking up a franchise. Would ya'll rather there be no sequel until the original publisher gets back on board or would you rather no sequel at or? Thank you for ya'lls time have a nice day.

I've been playing Red Dead Redemption for the last few months, and I have to say that I've been completely blown away by the immersive world, great voice acting, and fun gameplay. I recently downloaded Undead Nightmare as well, and it's equally awesome while managing to have a completely different tone.
I'm sure the developers of the game are proud to receive such high acclaim, but it's frustrating to me as a gamer when I read reports like the Rockstar San Diego wives post (http://www.gamasutra.com/blog s/RockstarSpouse/20100107/4032 /Wives_of_Rockstar_San_Diego_e mployees_have_collected_themse lves.php). The amount of stress and workplace unhappiness described in that post is unbelievable.
Based on your experience with the game industry, are the conditions described by the Rockstar San Diego wives realistic? If so, are they common for AAA developers? And are development studios becoming better at improving quality of life conditions for their employees?

Recently, there's an air of video game reviews undergoing large critique. Why do you think this could be all of the sudden i.e. large amounts of people not seeing eye to eye than ever before, harshly contrasting opinions...
balto85
You're always brutally honest in your scoring of video games. In light of the Direct TV situation, how would you rate your own channel? What kind of scores would you give it? Now, your website is a different story to me. That's a 5/5 for sure. \

This may seem counter productive but recently a friend brought up an interesting question. While playing assassins creed 2 he was surprised to see the addition of a gun. He said that he never saw any reviews or previews because he wanted a "full experience". I at first thought it was dumb but i later thought about it. My question to you all is how much differently would our game experience be if we never saw as much of a trailer before buying a game?

Hey feedback crew,
do you think that the election tomorrow will overshadow the coverage of the supreme court case and public opinion will not be affected due to this political show. if so will it continue to be a shadow in the media as the net neutrality case was (which will prove to be complete and utter nightmare for America) and will this cause a loss for us hoping for the supreme court to deem the California law as unconstitutional ?

I have a feedback question of the week.
Why doesn't G4TV have more shows like feedback? I think I can speak for the majority and say that feedback is better than every single show on the network. X-Play should be more like feedback. Hell, make feedback its own show.
Adam, I have mad respect for you. You and the feedback crew are what is keeping me coming to G4 in some way. This is what I look for in a television show. Just a few people sitting around and talking about what they love. No specific demographic to target, no fluff, no advertisers to impress, just you guys. It reminds me of the "ScreenSavers" from the TechTV days.
If G4 were to stop airing feedback, I would wash my hands of G4. That's how important your show is to me.

Speaking of Kinect..
While I want it to do well and bring Nintendo some friendly competition, I have this undeniable sense that it's going to do piss poorly.. I get the feeling more copies of Epic Mickey are going to be sold then Sony and Microsoft's motion devices combined.
So what happens when these Wannabe-Wii's fail?

Many of my friends, even though they know little about the game, are already planning their trip to get Call of Duty: Black Ops at midnight. After discussing this with them, I have found that they are excited simply because the game bears the "Call of Duty" title. As this is a major selling point, do you think that Infinity Ward has a chance of taking the name of the series with them to Respawn, and how strongly do you think this will adversely affect Treyarch's future titles?

With all the glitches in several recently released games do you think game design quality is slipping? I am afraid this will become more of a trend in the industry.

In this new post-WoW age, where people expect more instant gratification and rewards in their gameplay, does story suffer because of it? Do efforts to craft a decent yarn fall by the wayside when gamers are only interested in number-crunching stat bonuses, new loot, and addictive meta-games? Is it possible for a game to delay gratification for a more believable story, or do gamers demand too much up front for that to be successful on a large scale?

My question: What are your thoughts of the new Xbox 360 Dashboard update?
Is it good/bad overall? Pros and Cons? Any tweaks that should have been implemented?
tlavan90
With the launch of the Kinect imminent (seemingly the 360's answer to casual/family gaming) the initial success of the wii, and the "Move" Sony's attempt at motion control that seemed to be stopped in place. Are we seeing the decline in not only "hardcore" support from the Big Three (Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo) but an entire paradigm shift by transitioning these "gaming consoles" into a type of universal entertainment system?
If we assume this is the case, is this necessarily a hindrance? Or will the increased demographic bring about a shift in the public 's view of gaming? Possibly allowing for an increase in not only popularity of games themselves but the industry as a whole (the great parts that is i.e independent and revolutionary studies, gaming journalism, etc)
Yet if we take into account the impending Supreme court case regarding violence in video games, are we going to see an even further disconnect from what WE the "hardcore" or as I prefer "dedicated" gamers have come to expect from our favorite pastime? Possibly changing the face of gaming as we know it? Or could this be another blip in the time-line of gaming we will simply pass by.
A lot of questions.
Dedicated Viewer effected by directv's cancellation, Keep up the good work!
