UPDATED 3:35PM: It appears that the game is no longer available. The second page still lists Fable II for free, but when you try to download it, you can't. Not sure what's going on, but we'll let you know as soon as we find out.
Some sharp eyed Xbox 360 owners today noticed something rather interesting on the Fable II page of the Xbox Marketplace. The full game, not just the first episode, is available for download…for free...right now.
What’s particularly curious about the free download is that if you go to this Fable II page, the regular Xbox.com page, or the Game Marketplace via your 360, the game is listed for $19.99. However, if you go to this page, the game is listed for free and is able to be added to your download queue.
We’ve contacted Microsoft to find out if this was some kind of promotion for Fable III that had its switched flipped a little early, or if it’s just some amazing glitch, so we’ll let you know when we find out what exactly is going on.

UPDATE: A Microsoft representative sent along this response, which suggests that this whole ordeal was an unfortunate (yet, for some, beneficial) mistake:
"We have seen reports that an Xbox.com page listed Fable II as being free to download. While getting the entire game for 'free' would be (and was for a short time) an amazing deal, it is now available at the intended Xbox Platinum Hits price of $19.99 . A perfect way to warm up the skills for Fable III which launches on October 26!"

as far as i know it was a mistake that Microsoft made which they said in a brief response regarding the incident. they said it's fable 2 episode 1 one, but in actuality is the full version of fable 2. those who were able to download were lucky and got a free game. although it may be a loss to them, it is digital content so no damage is done. they do have to explain to avoid damage control.

Is this stealing? Microsoft, the greedy bastards that they are, would not just give Fable 2 away. Seems like a mistake. I would be worried that they would do something to my Xbox Live account and not to mention I would feel bad if I stole something. Just saying.

I was able to download last night. How ironic that this was 3 days ago. I went through this link though from the article which still says free, but if you access it by typing in xbox.com and going to the Fable 2 page it will say 19.99. Give it a try, might still be up using the link above. Good luck!

I just downloaded it to my account. I think if you have a card reg to your account it will show up as already purchased and if you don't it'll say free and you can't download it.

Guys I just went to the website and it said it's free and I clicked download and I went to my xbox to make sure and it's actually downloading to my xbox!! This is no joke. I'm being dead serious. See for yourself. If you want to know the time here it's 8:48pm EST. Hurry and download it before they fix it again!
